I don't usually do action shooting, but recently went to a motor racing event and struggled with the AF point/area moving to inconvenient parts of the screen or viewfinder.

How do I keep the AF point/area in the centre of the screen?

I have found if I push the joystick and expand the focus area that assists when I am in your position.  Single point does not work for me for action.  I am sure I am not explaining it exactly right but expand the focus area to the range of the action and it works much better.
