X100S FW updates.
flysurfer replied to Erez's topic in Fuji X100VI / X100 / X100S / X100T / X100F / X100V / Fuji X70
Fuji never provided upgraded firmware to X100S users (I certainly didn't get one, even though I asked). Of course Zack Arias and David Hobby (now along with Kevin Mullins and Damien Lovegrove) are ultra-favored by Fujifilm (as they are prominent X photographers with a big followership), so they received parts of the X100T firmware for their X100S bodies when the X100T hardware wasn't ready. But they were also paid to use those cameras to produce sample images, promote the camera and/or deliver motivational speeches at Photokina. I think it's fair to assume that most or even all early X100T sample images in the X100T brochure and on the Fuji website were shot using a X100S with "special" firmware. -
Why wasn't full frame mentioned in poll?

I'd love to see a X100 style Fuji camera with a 24 MP full-frame sensor and a 35mmF2 lens. -
X-T1 Orientation Dependent Focus Points?
flysurfer replied to RadBadTad's topic in Fuji X-T1 / Fuji X-T10
Email, letter or phone call comes to mind. You are the second person I encounter to request this feature in the past two years, so it seems to get some traction. Maybe I'll include it in my list of suggested improvements (the request doesn't sound unreasonable), but in the meantime, folks need to write to Fuji if they really want this. Without at least a dozen emails or letters I simply don't see Fuji taking this idea seriously.- 8 replies

Why wasn't full frame mentioned in poll?

Leica is doing one, will be presented in a few days. -
16mm, 23mm, 35mm, 56mm and 90mm primes. With an emphasis on 16, 56 and 90. At my last wedding, I also used the 10-24mm and 16-55mm zooms.

One might consider adding another menu option to the AE-L configuration that allows a user to use AE-L to lock exposure and WB in concert. I'd oppose any "fix" that forces a WB lock, I'd consider this as a bug. But as an option, why not? Still, very few users will need it, and I haven't heard from a second person who actually wants this feature. Obviously, 99% of panorama shooters either use the Panorama function, shoot RAW or simply set a custom WB (or use a WB preset) before they start a JPEG series (using a grey card, for example).

I thought it was coming on 25JUN? Well, what do I know... Who cares, end of June is end of June, and it will come when it's ready. I'm currently evaluating firmware 4, and it looks pretty good so far. I have a day of shooting scheduled for Thursday. Hopefully, any remaining bugs will then reveal themselves.

X100S FW updates.
flysurfer replied to Erez's topic in Fuji X100VI / X100 / X100S / X100T / X100F / X100V / Fuji X70
Neither reps nor dealers know Fuji's plans for future products. And if they happen to know things, they aren't allowed to talk about them, especially not to customers whose first action is to post it on a public Fuji forum. Of course, there are always folks (reps, dealers, forum users) who make up stuff to sound important. The less they know, the more they tend to tell. Now, since I actually do know pretty much everything about product planning, I can't and won't tell you anything about it. That would be really bad form (not to mention violating NDAs), so I tend to restrict my communication to what has already been revealed by Toshi and other managers in interviews (and they have said plenty and were incredibly open about future products). There was also a statement at a press conference that Fuji has no plans to abandon the rangefinder form-factor. But hey, better ask a dealer or a rep, I'm sure they will come up with something. Meanwhile, I am waiting for my X-E2 upgrade this fall. -
I have all X series cameras and lenses, but the X100T isn't filling any gap. I simply don't see a gap. So when I can only pack 3 primes, these are the ones. I have plenty of zooms to fill other focal lengths.

X100S FW updates.
flysurfer replied to Erez's topic in Fuji X100VI / X100 / X100S / X100T / X100F / X100V / Fuji X70
Oh, I once owned a Porsche, so where can I pick up my free new current one? One thing is clear: If Fuji updates the X100S instead of the X100T, many customers will be done with Fuji. And I will happily lead the pack. -
16, 56, 90.

No change here, as predicted.

Maybe camera makers should consider a subscription model. Always get the latest X100 series hardware and regular incremental feature updates for 49.99 dollars per month. -

If Fujifilm was in the operating system business, they might be inclined to consider this. But they aren't. They are in the camera business. As long as Nikon, Canon, Sony etc. don't give free current cameras to customers who bought an older model 5 years ago, I don't think Fujifilm will consider such a move (Interestingly, Samsung is giving free cameras to folks who buy TVs and washing machines to boost their market share). -

Can be. But not necessarily. The point is that the older model has been replaced by a newer one. Sony for example is still selling three different RX100 models (Mk 1, Mk 2, Mk 3) at different prices. But they'd never upgrade one of the two older models. If there's any firmware feature upgrade, it would be for the Mk 3. -
X100S FW updates.
flysurfer replied to Erez's topic in Fuji X100VI / X100 / X100S / X100T / X100F / X100V / Fuji X70
Depends. Current models are supposed to receive updates (after all, it makes sense to improve models that are currently sold and competing in the marketplace). The X100T is quite current, and will be till at least 2016. So is the X30, btw, which could also benefit from the improved AF. X100S and X20? Not current, hence no more feature updates. So there are reasonable and unreasonable expectations. I prefer the former, so I am concentrating on improving the X30, X100T and X-E2 as long as they stay current and haven't been replaced with a successor. -

Of course they are. It's smart. They are now selling the X100T. The S is EOL. The real question is: Will the X100T receive the new AF system? As of now, it doesn't look like it, and that's unfortunate, because the hardware would perfectly support it. Instead, they plan on updating the X-E2 in a few months. -
Spot metering is nice in manual exposure mode (M). It gives us a direct zone reading wherever we point the camera at, and this can come in handy if we know what zone we prefer for a specific part of the subject. Experienced photographers know what zone they want for freshly fallen snow or a caucasian child's face (just two of many examples), so for users who know what they are doing (obviously a near-extinct breed in this day and age of smartphone photography), it's a quick way to check exposure. In this context, interlocking the metering area with the active AF frame makes a lot of sense, if not for metering frame position, then for metering frame size.

I'd consider that kind of lens to have a rather low priority für Fujifilm, as third party lens makers are already offering solutions for this very niche.
-
Of course it has been done. The issue is that sensor shift (multishot) isn't available with X-Trans, so a major benefit of body IS isn't applicable to current X-series cameras, even if they had it. However, multishot is a common feature in medium format cameras.
-
Sony uses body IS combined and lens IS, so this is neither new or "impossible", it's already happening. Fuji doesn't, as X-Trans doesn't allow sensor shift that would enable ultra high-res multishot capability (like Olympus MFT). Body IS can cover an additional axis, so that's a bonus over lens IS, and it could also help users with adapted lenses who tend to buy the X-Pro2. So body IS is on my list of long-term suggestions, but I don't expect to see it in the near future. However, I'd hope to see it in a medium format system (which would lmost certainly use Bayer) to enable sensor shift for product and landscape photographers. Maybe also to serve as a regular IS. I think that's a neat challenge, so why not think about it?

Wireless TTL flash with Fuji X-T1
flysurfer replied to rjmvandermeulen's topic in Fuji X-T1 / Fuji X-T10
Roboshoot offers wireless Fuji TTL. -
The only reason to update the X-E2 is to sell more of them at a higher price, but w/o cannibalizing X-T10 sales. Obviously, many X100T users also want an upgrade. So do plenty of X30 users. And what about XQ2? Is was just released, but no Zone and Wide/Tracking AF modes. It's a super current model, so where's my update?

If the x-pro 2 and x-t2 were both released tomorrow...
