  1. Greetings fellow photographers! My journey started when I was a teenager (which is a while back). I was fascinated by photographs that my grandfather had taken during the first world war while he was in the front lines, and by pictures of my mother's family some of which dated back to the late 1800's. When I was 19 I apprenticed with a respected advertising photographer in Buenos Aires which is where I was living at the time. At the time I thought I would make a career as a photographer, but life took me in a different direction and I always kept photography as hobby. Never thought I had a particular style but was drawn to portraits, abstract images, and architecture. Had different cameras over the years, and switched from film to digital about 25 years ago. Now I use a Fuji GFX 50sii and I love it. There is something about having a relatively big and heavy tool that feels deeply satisfying. I am now 70 and decided to dedicate myself more fully to taking pictures, and to see if I can turn it into a revenue stream as well. I plan to Focus on Travel with a special focus on Architecture, Urban environments, and Environmental Portraits. I am excited to start this new adventure!
  2. Thanks jerryy! You are absolutely right. I dont know why I didnt think of that. Anyway thanks a lot. I get to keep my Expodisc now!
  3. Hi! I bought the Expodisc mainly to create custom white balances in challenging lighting situations, and secondarily to measure incident light for exposure. However when I tried using it with my GF 50sii I did not find the option of creating a WB from an image already in camera. With the Expodisc I am supposed to take a picture with the Disc over the lens from the location where the subject is and pointing to the location where I am going to take the picture from. Then I am supposed to base the custom WB from that image which is almost like a grey card. The problem is that there is no option to do that with Custom WB. The only option is to shift the Balance in the screen, etc. Am I missing something? Is there a way to do what I need to do or am I stuck with a useless Expodisc? Thanks!
  4. Leofoto makes one specifically for that camera and the gfx 50sii which I am using right now. It fits perfectly and it works. Cheaper than the 3 legged thing also.
  5. Hello. When I bracket my exposure in a high contrast scene, I found a puzzling behavior and I am hoping you can help me understand why it is happening. Typically, when I bracket a scene I start by taking a picture that protects the highlights from clipping and I do that by watching the Histogram and the highlight clipping indicator. Then I bracket a series of shots adding more exposure. Usually at most the biggest range was 8 times the exposure needed for the highlights. That is what I used to do with my XT3 before I started using the GF50siiI. Since I started using the GF that calculation no longer works. For instance, in the 2 pictures I added below as an example I held the ISO at 100 and the Aperture say at F8, and changed the speed to take 1 picture to optimize the brightest highlight, and 1 picture to optimize the shadows. As you can see the difference in exposure between those 2 shots is huge. One shot was take at 1.3" and the other shot at 60". Is that normal for the GF camera? If it is normal, then I figured that what I need to do to bracket shots is to take a shot to optimize the highlights, another shot to optimize the darkest shadows, and then take maybe a couple of more shots in between. What do you think?
  6. Thanks Greybeard. Yes I assigned Focus Check to the AE-L button but that is after I was not able to assign it to the rear command dial. The only options available for the rear command dial are SS, Aperture, ISO, None.
  7. Hi! It was my understanding that the rear command dial of the GFX 50sii does Focus Check by default. The fact is that it doesn't and I haven't found a way to assign Focus Check to that dial. The options for that Dial do not include Focus Check. I was able to assign Focus Check to the AE-L button but that is not my preference. The problem I have is that I dont want to turn on Focus Check at the menu level because I dont want to have that feature turn on every time I move my focus ring (I shoot in Manual mode and use Manual focus). Any ideas or suggestions as to why the rear command dial does not do focus check and cannot be programmed to do so? Thanks!
