  1. more kids photos XT20 with 56 1.2
  2. Yes. I got one series in focus, i got another one with nothing in focus. I think it has to do with Face Recognition on/off. 1) We know that Fuji turns of PDAF if you use Face Recognition. That remains from XT1. So you can have either PDAF or Face Recogntion. If you want Face Recognition, you are in Contrast AF land. 2) However in CAF when you choose low (3-5fps) the camera will still allow you to select face recognition, but not the eye choice. In CAF high (8fps) the camera will not allow you to select face recognition period. Does it mean that Fuji tells you you can track at 5FPS by face via Contrast AF method on XT2, but you cannot track at 8fps by face via Contrast AF method?
  3. I have an always running 4 year old. With my Nikon D750 it is very easy, just put the camera in CAF mode, choose 3D AF, and press the shutter button and voila, you got a series of perfect in focus photographs. Doesn't get easier than that. With Fuji XT2 not so simple. Was trying different zone sizes, etc. Still searching for perfect AF setting to work with
  4. What lens did you use?
  5. Actually 56 1.2 on APS-C is like 85 1.8 Full Frame in terms of DOF, not 1.4. So using 56 1.2 at 1.2 give me same DOF as using Nikon 85 1.8 on my D800.
  6. Well those of us who had used other mirrorless cameras extensively like Olympus m43 for example kind of learn To rely on the feature Becuse it works amazingly good and dead on the closest eye. In continuous af mode too btw. Sony does pretty good in that regard as well, take a6000 for example. While those who always used dslrs maybe are not familiar with the feature, it has been in mirrorless for a while. What's ironic is I remember fuji at one point was one of the first if not the first who invented the feature in their point and shoot cameras about 7-8 years ago
  7. Well such function (focus on closest eye) has been working properly on Olympus bodies for several years at least since my first omd em5. Fuji needs to fix it
  8. Couple of people contacted me that the new Face Recog in FW4 is not accurate in that when you pick 'auto' eye, while it supposed to focus on a closest eye, it picks the other eye. I have not noticed it so I had to check myself. When the face is not parallel to the plane.... I tested it (not extensively though) and I think these people found a possible issue with the firmware. Here is a photo I took at night time the other night. I set the Face Recog on "auto" which is, in accordance with Fuji description, means the closest eye. Yet it clearly focused on the farthest eye. Has anyone else noticed it, or nobody uses Face Recog anyway in order to have PDAF on?
  9. I had two XE1 which each would freeze. Flysurfer acts like he is surprised about it. Even Dpreview, the largest photography site in the world, acknowledge in their reviews of first Fuji X cameras that they freeze and software crashed in them. But they loved the cameras anyway.
  10. Face Recognition on a Fuji does not work in Continuous AF mode. That's a Fuji thing. Works fine in all the m43 and Sonys.
  11. Patrick thank you very much. went to the park with my 3 year old today. He was running and I changed my XT1 with same 56/1.2 to MS only. Every shot in focus at 1.2!!!! He was running, and everyrthing was in focus! MS only, no Face Recog, CH. The only thing is Continuous High is rated at 8FPS, but I was not getting 8FPs clearly, even though my shutter speed was close to 1/4000.... I was getting at most 4-5fps (more like 4) but all in focus, camera took time focusing between shots with that 56/1.2 which is not the fastest focusing lens. But I was getting everything in focus, so thanks again. I was using 5X3 boxes which I think is the largest Fuji allows you in accordance with their new Firmware 4.0 AF chart for continuous AF
  12. Great to know thanks. I might have had ms plus es by default. What about es only? Notwithstanding jelly effect, does xt1 do tracking with es only? Or has to be ms only so u are limited to 1/4000 (and sounds like 5x3 central zone) when tracking?
  13. Listen, lets not kid ourselves. Fuji put plenty of official firmwares that had plenty of bugs. Remember when XE1 was freezing from ttime to time???? Flysurfer is full of it.
  14. Thanks. I had too many other kids interfere with mine on the playground so it must have confused the camera
  15. I think this Fuji chart here how to use the new AF system is very useful http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/pdf/x_t1_x_t10_af_handbook_01.pdf I learned new things there. For example, if you put your XT1 in HC mode (8FP) and Continuous AF, only 5X3 or 3X3 modes work. I would have never guessed without this chart.
  16. Can you share which af mode and zone/wide you used for these? I had very little keepers last night with 56/1.2 trying to track my 3 year old running unpredictably around a playground.
  17. According to Flysurfer Rico, Fuji tester, the way Fuji implements its Face Detection, is you cannot have Face Detection and PDAF. If you want Face Detection, it is back to Contrast AF Method. If you want PDAF, gotta turn off that Face Detection. Does not work together, this is how Fuji decided to implement its face detect feature (different from Sony, where pdaf and face detection of course works together just as well in continuous AF mode).
  18. I don't think they can do HSS the way you want it via firmware, that requires different hardware. My Nissin i40 can do HSS up to 1/4000 with XT1 in Shutter Priority and Aperture mode. That's not bad. I could care less about the clock though.
  19. Further, if Fuji produces more firmware and it does not update to 1000s of us who updated with this so called beta 4.0 who is Fuji punishing??? Who are the people that ran and updated immediately??? It is the same crazy Fuji fans that is a core base of Fuji, the same people who pre-order and run and buy Fujis next camera and all the lenses. We are the core of that crazy group of early adapters and people who preorder and buy new things from Fuji, guaranteed. Does Fuji really want to offend that core group of its most enthusiastic early adapters and buyers of all their gear???? Not a good move.
  20. So far no problems no bugs with the firmware. And I don't see anyone here or any other place who had this for the last few several days to complain about a single problem with the firmware. Because there are literally 1000s of people right now with it on their XT1 actively using it, which is times more than usual with normal beta software, we would have heard something surely if there was anything wrong. Everything works as it should. Further, with firmware 4.0, it is not clear whether Fuji is going to update it any further. What else do you think they could squeeze in the software for that 2 year old camera??? What features you are thinking? The camera is limited by its sensor and autofocus system at this point. So the present firmware is possibly the last one anyway when it comes to this model. At least I don't see how much more they could improve it beyond what's already in this firmware.
  21. I liked the 18-135 and obviously 35 after the update. However, I was disappointed with my 56/1.2 after work today trying to follow my 3-year-old on a playground. I got very little in focus despite trying every single mode and zone and wide focusing. The camera struggled just as it did with old firmware. I am going to try the 35 in the next few days in the same scenario. But shooting today with 56 reminded me again why I keep my DSLR sadly.
  22. I liked 5X3 zone AF-S in my short testing here. Next test which will be the key one - my 3 year old running! That wont happen for few days though..... If that 35 continue its crazy I might seriously consider selling my Sony A7 and 55 1.8 FE lens.
  23. I just turned off all the lights except one lamp and that 35/1.4 is just going and going and going. Is this for real?
