rick.estrada reacted to Larry Bolch in Fuji X-T10, with the 60mm over the 35mm...
If you need only one eye to be in focus, the 56mm f/1.2 is essential. However, the fad for paper thin depth of field is approaching cliché status and hardly appropriate for most documentary work. The 60mm f/2.4 is a brilliant lens with powerful close focusing ability. It is a lens I use a great deal with my X-Pro1. I don't see how the experience would differ significantly with the X-T10 specifically. It is essential in my kit. The X100 is a nice compliment, specially in troublesome light, where its fill-flash capability can be vital.

rick.estrada reacted to flesix in X-Trans III: The waxy skin is gone
For everyone who did not like the the waxy skin in high ISO SOOC jpegs of the X-Trans II cameras, there's good news: It's gone in the X-Trans III.
If you like to check for yourself, I added two X-Pro2 shots to the comparison I once did between the X-E2 and X-E1:

At last, I can switch off the irritating "camera shake" warning for shutter speeds below 1/60. Thanks, Fuji!

I got an email today from 1X,
One of my photos has been published. So glad that it is with X-T1 because I was always saying I feel free with this camera and able to capture more.

I have tried my chance maybe 20 times before and never succeded. Maybe I should get a lottery today

rick.estrada reacted to Adam Woodhouse in Fuji X Wedding Photography Chat
I think if a person moves to mirrorless line to reduce bulk/size/weight ... having another brand as a backup means the lenses to support the backup body ... so kind of defeats the point in my mind.

I have been using Canon 6D + various lenses for weddings/events/newborns
Switched to X-T1 + 23mm + 56mm and 10-24mm about 18 months ago and I loved it.
YN560mk2 works fine with x-t1,
lately i added yn622c and yn622 tx for off camera flash setup.

rick.estrada reacted to CRAusmus in Lexar UHS-II card is slower than UHS-I on X-Pro1
Are you not counting the number of frames you are getting with each test? It seems to me like you got more frames in the buffer on the first test before it bogged down, and less frames on the second. The buffer seemed to bog down quicker on test two, but without counting the frames your getting, there is no way of knowing for sure. Naturally it'll take longer to write 20 frames then it will 15...

rick.estrada reacted to leifbrandt in Weddings/Events with just primes
After easing myself into the Fuji world...I finally shot a wedding last week completely with my Fuji setup. I still brought one of my Nikon bodies just incase...but the fujis held up great throughout the day! My setup was
2x X-T1
Rokinon 12mm
23mm 1.4
35mm 1.4
56mm 1.2
90mm 2.0
The majority of the day was shot with the 23mm on one body and the 56mm on the other. For the ceremony I would occasionally switch from the 56 to the 90 and for the open dancing I just have the 12mm on. I'm getting used to the 23mm/56mm focal lengths. Over the last couple of years I've been using full frame DSLRs with a 50mm being my main lens. Not sure why, but the 23/56 combo feels great for me now where the 35/85 combo on a Full frame didn't.

rick.estrada reacted to Fletch in Fuji X Wedding Photography Chat
After a long strange trip of changing camera systems since I first tried to go with the Fuji system back in April 2014, I found myself back with Fuji. I had decided last year that the Fuji X-T1 and XF lenses were not fast enough for the way I shot weddings, so I moved away from them. A little over a year later, I heard about the firmware 4 update and decided to give Fuji another shot.
The first real test was a 2-day Indian Wedding in Huntington Beach, CA (Day 1) and Irvine, CA (Day 2) in mid-July of this year. I'm not going to lie, it was a pretty challenging shoot - the ceremony on day 1 was in the middle of the day in hard sunlight and 85 degree heat. Not the worst situation ever, but challenging for sure. The reception was pretty dimly lit, and knowing that the ISO capabilities of the X-T1 aren't the greatest, I had to make sure my ISO setting was no higher than 1600 and my flash was firing at 1/16th, sometimes 1/8th. In post, there was noise but I cleaned it up in LR using the luminance slider (which I tried to use as little as possible).
Not having burst flash mode hurts, but it's not the end of the world. I actually feel it makes you a better photographer because you have to time things much better than you would with a DSLR. Would I like burst flash mode on the X-T1? Of course. Is it usable at a wedding without it? Absolutely.
Below is a link to the shots I got with my X-T1 that day, if anyone wants to see. They are color corrected and touched up a little bit for noise as I mentioned below but are otherwise unretouched. I had also used a Nikon D750 for some of the heavy lifting because I wasn't sure how the Fuji would perform. At the end of the day, I was happy with the way things turned out and the client loved the shots, which is the most important thing.

I got my 90mm last week and used it for a wedding last weekend. Well, I'll let numbers speak for themselves.
Out of 880 images, 470 were shot with the 90. I had enough working space to use it that much and the images speak for themselves. The look of extremely sharp in focus and smooooooth out of focus just goes well with emotional story telling. AF worked pretty darn good, even at low light. Everybody who loves their 50-140 or 55-200 should probably have a little look at the 90. Might be worth it.

I try to avoid flash at all. If the photographer is not careful, the flash destroys the whole mood (talking about the dance/party stuff).
Flash during the ceremony, imo, is just way too annoying to waste a thought about it.
