  1. I’m not much help I’m afraid as I don’t tether my camera. However, I believe the new version of Capture One is out today and on their website you can get a free trial to see if you like it. So I would use the trial and see what you think.
  2. Interesting thread! I've enjoyed reading everyones 'desert island lenses' I have an X-T30 with 18-55mm lens. I really like it and have no plans to get rid of it. I'm thinking of getting another lens next year and at the top of my list is the 10-24mm mk ii. I'm also tempted by a prime and the 35mm f2 is on my list. I'll have to start saving up! 😂 I've tried out the 55-200mm for a few days and I did like it but not sure how much I would use it. I don't really have a specific photography niche and I enjoy landscapes, nature, some urban, pretty much willing to give anything a go. The one thing that doesn't really interest me is portraits of people.
  3. Thanks again for your helpful post! I'm very much a hobbyist so catalogue is probably a fine option for me. I just have the photos in different folders and this works for me in LR. I've never used key words or anything like that before. I'll have a look at the Catalogue vs Sessions video though, thanks.
  4. Not entirely sure what DAM means, I'm not very techy. 😬 Is it photo organisation? I just use catalogues in LR and I believe you can set these up in C1 too?
  5. Thanks @Herco for your really helpful reply. 😊 I have a MacBook Pro so I’m pleased to hear C1 isn’t so memory intensive! The plan is to cancel my Adobe subscription when I can do so penalty free, and then download the trial version of C1. If I like it, which I’m sure I will, I’ll then purchase C1 for Fuji. I think I already follow Thomas Fitzgerald on YouTube, but will check out Scott Deweiler too, I haven’t heard of him before.
  6. Thank you for this! Sorry for the huge delay in reply, I don’t think I got notified of your post. Ive set up back button focus so I use this when I remember. I’ve been having a lot of fun with my filters and it’s so easy to use them with my Fuji camera.
  7. Thanks everyone for your helpful replies. I’ve checked my Adobe account and currently stuck in a subscription for a few more months. 😩 I’m strongly considering purchasing C1 for Fuji outright and using that instead. The 21 version looks very good with a lot of useful features. My only concern is my laptop may struggle. At the moment it can run Lightroom but the RAM is almost maxed out and it’s quite slow. When I bought my laptop I wasn’t interested in photography so didn’t think much about RAM and processing power. I’m loathe to upgrade as it’s so expensive and my laptop is fine for all other tasks, just not photo editing! I love my Fuji camera and can’t see me moving from it any time soon. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve viewed my Canon RAW files since I’ve had my Fuji and I think my Fuji photos are much better anyway. 😛 I’ve been looking on YouTube for C1 tutorials and have noticed some good ones by pal2tech. I’m aware it’s quite different to LR in terms of interface but it looks like C1 have their own tutorials and there’s also a lot on YouTube which should help me get to grips with it. Any tips or advice welcome!
  8. I'm still using LR as if I leave early I have to pay almost £60 so stuck with it for now. I've managed to adjust sharpening so that artefacts etc. aren't too bad on my Fuji files. I have used the free version of C1 but need to look more into how to use it properly and think about getting the full version. I have everything all organised into collections in LR so it'll be tough to switch to C1 at first I think.
  9. Hi, I have an X-T30 and have just got a few ND filters. I’ve yet to try them out but just wondering how to focus with them, particularly the 10 stop? If I use auto focus or back button focus before adding the filter, as soon as I take my finger off the button has the camera unlocked the focus? Sorry for such a stupid question but it’s been confusing me and I haven’t found a clear answer on google.
  10. Hi Jerry, Thanks for your helpful reply! I’ll check these out. I’m happy to spend a little more if it’s good quality. Im not buying an L plate for the extra grip but just to make it easier to use with my tripod so I don’t have to screw and unscrew the plate all the time.
  11. Hi, I had a quick search for this and couldn’t see anything so apologies if it’s been posted before. I have an X-T30 which I love, but the one thing that annoys me is the tripod plate needs to be removed to access the battery compartment. I’ve seen a few l brackets which allow access to the battery compartment. I have a Peak Design tripod, so the plate needs to be unscrewed with a little key and it’s just a pain. Can anyone recommend an l bracket which is compatible with the X-T30, allows access to the battery compartment, is decent quality and doesn’t add too much bulk? I’d appreciate it if you could send your recommendations. Thank you 😊
  12. Love your bee photo! Which lens did you take it with? I captured a busy bee recently too but can’t upload the photo as it says it’s too big 😔
  13. I wouldn’t expect too much from my photos, I’m very amateur and I’m lucky if they’re in focus 😂 I love my XT30 and got it with the 18-55mm lens. I’m happy with it so far and for a ‘kit lens’ it seems really well made and good quality. I’m thinking of a 35mm prime next and perhaps a wide angle after that.
  14. Hi 🙂 I had a Canon 100D which was my first camera and I recently got an XT30. I feel I use it a lot more than my Canon and really like it so far. Im still in a bit of a dilemma about which software to use. I’m used to using Lightroom and find it’s better value for money than Capture One as it has mobile apps and offers Photoshop etc. too. Ive got the free version of Capture One but have only used it a couple of times. I think I prefer the interface of Lightroom.
  15. Great photo. I’m getting used to using manual mode and really like my Fuji so far. I find I’m more inclined to take it out with me compared to my old camera I have a video call this week with a Fuji guy to go through any queries. Great service to offer and I think it’ll be really useful.
  16. Hi, Thank you so much for your reply. At the moment, I have the Capture One Express free version. I tried it yesterday with some Fuji RAW files and they definitely look much better initially than they do in LR. They did take a long time to load though and I didn't have that many images so not sure why that was. 🤔 I also struggled with exporting them to JPEG as the file sizes were absolutely massive. I had to read an article on how to adjust the sizing and then try exporting them again. I didn't mind the interface of Capture One but prefer LR, maybe it's because I'm more used to it. I was only using the free version of Capture One. I did check out my Fuji RAW files in LR and if you zoom in to the detailed areas the 'worms' are so horrible and the file didn't look as good. I have watched a video on YouTube explaining how to adjust the sharpening in LR and the results looked good, but the image used was a portrait shot. I'm not sure if the same technique applies to other photos, like landscape, for example. I haven't tried it out yet but will give it a go and see if it helps. So far I'm still torn between sticking with LR or moving to Capture One. LR seems better value for money as you get the whole Creative Cloud for £9.99 a month and it includes apps for your phone or iPad. As far as I'm aware the subscription version of Capture One for Fuji is the same price. Buying the full version may be more cost effective in the long run but it depends how much upgrades cost and how frequent/necessary they are. Thanks again for your help.
  17. Thanks for the tip 🙂 My plan was to shoot only in RAW but if I can’t zoom in enough I’ll try RAW and JPEG. I might need to get a bigger memory card!
  18. Interesting. I already use LR so if the Fuji RAW files look ok I’ll just stick with it. I think in areas of high detail there can be a lot of artefacts and ‘worms’ which don’t look very nice. I’m not sure how easy it is to sort that out in LR, especially as I’m very amateur. Apparently it’s due to the Fuji sensor and LR doesn’t process it so well. I’m getting my camera next week so will see what I think Really excited to get out photographing with it. I’ve watched YouTube videos about the focusing and it looks really good. Maybe for once my photos will be in focus 😂 Do you always use the EVF, screen or a mix of both? On my Canon I mostly use the viewfinder but that’s mainly to save battery.
  19. I haven’t heard of that, interesting. I use Lightroom very tentatively and only do the basics. I have heard that it doesn’t handle Fuji RAW files so well but I’m going to see what they’re like before I think about switching to a different program. I need to work on my photography, I’m very amateur and just do it as a hobby. I’m hoping that the Fuji system with the dials will make me think about each part and hopefully improve my skills.
  20. Nice to see someone else from Scotland on here. 🙂 I keep meaning to visit Dundee to check out the V&A, the building looks really cool. My XT30 is arriving next week and I’m so excited to try it out, I’ve never used mirrorless before. I’ve had an entry level Canon for a few years so this should be a big upgrade! If you have any tips please send them my way.
  21. Thank you, that’s interesting. I haven’t heard of Iridient before. From what I’ve seen it looks like you need to do a lot of faffing with sharpening in LR before you can get started with the editing you want to do. I only do basic editing on LR and the less faffing I have to do with pictures the better, hence considering Capture One. The downside is if I switched to Capture One Fuji then I’m not sure how I would open and edit my Canon raw files. 🤔 I don’t have that many and none are that great as I’m very amateur so it’s not a major concern. I’ll look into Iridient but it adds another step which could be avoided I think. I’d like to keep it as simple as possible.
  22. Hi, Thank you for your reply. Ive watched a quick video about how to use Capture One and it looks intuitive and user friendly. I think I’ll download their free version to see what I think first and can compare the files to ones opened in LR. Ive seen some videos where the raw files look horrible in LR and others where they look fine 🤷‍♀️ If I don’t use my Canon again I’d be more inclined to switch as I would probably get the Fuji version of Capture One for cost reasons. I’ll see how I get on, thanks again ☺️
