  3. Today I had a chance to try out the Leica R 28-90mm f2.8-f4.5 Vario-Elmarit. The results are very good. I'm trying out these lenses more out of curiosity. I feel that they're too bulky for the X-Pro1, focusing is not a quick process -possibly with the exception of the APO 100mm Macro-Elmarit, which being a fixed focal length handles easier, and like the other lenses, also delivers outstanding images on the X-Pro1 ! Images from the 28-90mm on next post below...
  4. You beat me to it Mark! I also received my other adaptor (Sony α-FX) this PM. Not wanting to hijack your thread I started another thread with the Leica R lenses. Looking forward to seeing your pics with the 90mm G. Which adaptor are you using?
  5. Leica R 100mm f2.8 APO-Macro Elmarit -Jpegs straight out of camera with no post processing. Image #1 @ f2.8 Image #2 @ f5.6 More to follow with other R lenses.....
  6. Leica R 280mm f4 APO-Telyt @ f4 -Jpegs straight out of camera with no post processing. As mentioned above, a cold afternoon with very flat grey light and the only victims I could find to photograph were my cats and my 3 friends from East Africa.
  7. This afternoon I received a Fotodiox Sony α - FX adaptor to try out with some of my Leica R lenses on the X-Pro1. Background: A couple of years ago I modified these lenses from Leica R mount to Sony α mount for use on my Sony α850, using a Leitax adaptor: http://www.leitax.com/Leica-lens-for-Sony-cameras.html For several years I've used these lenses on the Sony α850 with very pleasing results. With the advent of the Sony A7r in 2013, I sold the α850, purchased an A7r. I've never been entirely happy with the super sharp "clinical" images from the Sony A7r, and looking for alternatives led me to the Fuji system, albeit with a smaller sensor. I'm really pleased with the image quality so far. This afternoon I did some quick test shots with the Leica R 280mm f4 APO-Telyt and the Leica R 100mm f2.8 APO-Macro Elmarit. Undisputedly both of these lenses are probably among the best lenses ever made in their respective focal lengths. It was a cold afternoon with very flat grey light, on top of which out here in the countryside, the only victims I could find to photograph were my cats and my 3 friends from East Africa. Pics to follow in the next thread. I used a bean bag for the 280mm, which is what I always use on safari with this lens -never used a tripod. The shots with the 100mm were hand held. Ran out of time and light, I still have to do some shots with the Leica Vario-Elmarit 28-90mm f2.8-f4.5 and the Vario-Elmar 105-280mm f4.
  8. These are with the 28mm Contax G shot a f2.8 Straight out of camera Jpegs, with no post processing at all.
  9. Thanks Mark. I love cats, both wild and domestic, they're just so intelligent and resourceful. The Contax G adaptor arrived yesterday afternoon, I immediately dropped what I was doing and shot a few pics. Attaching the lens to the Fotodiox adaptor seems a little fiddly at times- you need to make sure that the lens clicks into place fully, requires a little extra twisting force to achieve this. Focus is then easy using the adaptor's ring. Here are some images, these are Jpegs straight off the camera with no post processing at all. All shot at f2.8 I think you're correct about the Contax 90mm G. From the little I've seen it's absolutely stunning on the X-Pro 1. Max size you can post is 1MB. These are with the Contax 90mm G:
  10. Amongst everything else, I'm also pleased to see Classic Chrome added to the film simulation modes. I used it extensively on the X100T, reminds me of the days when I used to shoot Kodachrome 25 ASA....
  11. I've recently purchased an X-Pro1. I have the following lenses which I'm going to try out (more out of curiosity for the big lenses) as soon as the 2 Fotodiox adaptors (Contax G-FX & Sony A-FX) which I've ordered, arrive this week. 28mm Zeiss F2.8 Contax G Mount Sonnar 90mm Zeiss F2.8 Contax G Mount Sonnar 300mm Zeiss f2.8 Tele Apo Tessar -previously Contax /Yashica mount which I've modified to Sony Alpha mount for use on A7r. 280mm Leica APO Telyt f4 -modified to Sony Alpha mount. 105-280mm APO f4.2 Leica Vario Elmar -modified to Sony Alpha mount. I'm also regularly using the following Leica M lenses on the Xpro1 with Fotodiox LM-FX adaptor: 24mm f2.8 Elmarit 28mm f2 Summicron 35mm f2.5 Summarit - this lens really shines on the X Pro! 50mm f1.4 Summilux 75mm f2 Summicron Will report back in the next couple of days.... Best, Mike Please excuse the really crap quality of the pics from my old iPhone!
  12. I joined this Forum in May, but have only started posting here this week. I've been shooting with Leicas since the mid-1970s, starting with an M3 then M6, M7, M8, M9 and Monochrom, all of which I still have. Along the way over 40 years I've accumulated an arsenal of Leica M & R lenses. I’ve also owned and used Hasselblad 500 series cameras with Zeiss lenses and a CFV-50 digital back, all recently sold. As my eyesight has lately started to deteriorate, focusing with the range finder and the Hassleblads has become trickier. So I went out and bought a Sony A7r. Using manual focus and the focus magnification function has worked well both with my M lenses, and the R lenses for wildlife. However, somehow the “look & feel” of the Sony's images lacked “character" and seemed too “clinical” for my liking, this is purely my subjective opinion. I ended up on this Forum after I purchased a Fuji X100T. I loved the images, but ergonomically I couldn’t come to terms with the camera’s size, my hands are too big for it. As the X-Pro1 became heavily discounted a few weeks ago, and based on what I saw with the X100T images I thought I’ll give it a try, and purchased a new X-Pro1 and 18mm f2 lens for all of €570-. From the outset I really liked this camera, it's handling and the images it delivers. Not since my Leicas have I seen images with such wonderful image quality and “character”. As for high ISO shooting and straight out the camera JPEGs the Leicas can't match the Fuji (I always shoot RAW + JPEG). Overall the Fuji images are right up there IMO. I’ve since added a Fuji 23mm f1.4 and 35mm f2. Financed the X-Pro1 and the 3 lenses by offloading my Leica 35mm Summilux f1.4. I’m also using my remaining Leica M lenses on the X-Pro1 with a Fotodiox LM-FX adaptor and the focus magnification function. Overall I’m very pleased! In my view, ergonomically in general, Fuji have got it right over the digital Leicas; the ability to quickly change exposure compensation as well as ISO without having to take your eye off the viewfinder is a very big plus for me. The only issue is that I keep pressing the Q button by mistake... I am eagerly anticipating the X-Pro2... Some of my images: http://michali.zenfolio.com
