  1. Sunny skies for our hike, and once again shorts and tee shirt fit the weather. We went all the way round Trail 401 in the Nature Preserve, and even did a bit of off-trail scrambling. The amazing rocks, boulders, trees, vistas, and stillness were expansive and inspiring, as always. What a treat! 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.
  2. Beautiful photograph, George! Mine are from about 2200 meters altitude. My post-processed uploaded images are all at 2560 pixels on the longest side, and 300 dpi. I often add a bit of additional contrast, and sometimes a tad more saturation, but that is all. No sharpening, and almost all of the images are uncropped. The forum software creates the smaller sizes (and probably lower dpi) that are displayed, but if you click on them you will get to the originals. Generally I go on two hikes weekly, most of them near my home. It looks like you live near some amazing mountains!
  3. Thanks very much, George! I often find that images do not look as good on laptop screens as they do on desktop monitors. That is certainly the case with my desktop Eizo 22" ColorEdge compared with an Asus 22" monitor on another machine, let alone a laptop. Here's another lichen photograph from the same hike as the other two.
  4. I have not used the 23/1.4 with the X-T1, although I would think it would not be measurably different from the X-T2. I have never owned the 35/1.4. My comments were based upon using the 23/1.4 with the X-T2.
  5. The 23/1.4 focuses plenty fast. Maybe not as quick as the 90/2, but the difference is hardly noticeable. And its IQ is superb! I owned the X100S for 3 or so years, but that lens is not nearly as sharp as the 23/1.4, and is somewhat soft wide open, which the 1.4 is not.

    I take your word for it, but since I cannot see them with my ageing eyes, I simply sit back and enjoy the images. I can post the original colour jpeg, if you are interested.

    What you are deeming artifacts may well be due to the intense sunlight at 7000 feet (or more) of elevation glinting off leaves, needles, and branches. And I do not see these, viewing fullscreen on my monitor (1680x1050). Thanks for commenting!

  11. Update: I changed the auto off setting to 2 minutes, and it is working fine.
  12. I have set my X30 to turn off after 5 minutes, in the Power Management/Auto Power Off menu. But all of a sudden, it is staying on continuously. Any ideas as to why this may be happening? Thanks!

  14. Thermal wear and paddling jackets for our kayaking trip today, after a five-week hiatus due to inclement weather, but my oh my, what an incredible place! The stillness, solitude, and deep connections with Nature are awe-inspiring. We were set upon by ferocious winds near the end of the return journey. It severely tested our skills and endurance, and although it was touch-and-go, we made it back safely. And since the Tetilla Peak boat ramp is closed for the season, putting in at the main boat ramp added two miles to the round trip. It was a delight to view the fall colors of the cottonwoods, aspens, willows, tamarisk, grasses, and shrubs, and the light on the rock cliffs was wonderful. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9.
