  1. 58 different ones, I know they exist but I don’t have a manual of the X-T10 to specify them all to you. One would be certainly like the one on the X-10 that I have (and use) and is one which shoots 2 or three pictures at the same time, on sharp and the other(s) not then and puts them together. Very useful for portraits to enhance even more the blurred part of the image. I particularly like that on my small X10 , which despite not being a professional camera, as such, gives results , which I personally consider of a very high quality indeed.
  2. what’s in a word? In practice the X-T10 has all the software that the X-T1 has , minus the presets and few other things, and only minor differences in the hardware ( I didn’t buy the camera for its WR or the slightly larger EVF or the possibility to shoot way faster while we are still debating the auto tracking capabilities ). So it comes down to the X-T10 having more choices than the X-T1 while costing a whole lot less. Maybe I need a X-T10 after all.
  3. the oversize Lolumina is a great addition to my camera. For me the quality is not so much “ stability in low light” which I really don’t think is the best thing that a button like this gives you, but the fact that it allows my big hands and fingers (with poor dexterity due to hand problems) to work well with the camera. I went for the large red one. If you are afraid to look silly you have inconspicuous solutions too. I am 120Kg. 183cm bald man often sporting hats. I am used to be conspicuous, no matter of black or whatever other color you may consider less conspicuous, would ever render me stealthy nor do I particularly care to be. I often wear colorful clothes.
  4. When the 4.0 firmware was presented I was hoping that the X-T1 was going to get these Advanced mode 58 presents ( most of which, admittedly, would be of no use to me but I would happily use at least a couple of those) which are to be found on the X-T10. Unless they are there somewhere where I haven’t been able to find them (and in that case I would be very happy to be wrong) I don’t think that X-T1 users have been provided with the 4.0 firmware update with these, perhaps not essential, but nevertheless nice to have functions. Of course there will be those who will tell me that I shouldn’t miss these things and that being a competent photographer I should be able to make up for these and if I am not... then I am an incompetent photographer. If that is what you are going to contribute to this thread I can only ask you, please to keep this kind of comment for yourself.
  5. several accessories here. Lolumina red shutter release. ( they now have different sizes mine is the 13,5mm one and I love it! Don’t forget to use some thread locking loctite after installing it and you will never lose it!) Fuji Long Eyecup ( nice, but could have been nicer if even more connecting to the eye and excluding external light even more) iErnest tan leather strap ( a.f.a.i.k. no longer in production a Dutch handmade luxury item with its unique sock absorbing design, quirky but very well made) the 60mm macro has a 39mm B+W F+PRO UV filter as a spacer and then a 39-52 adapter ring and then a short 2cm lens hood. This avoids me using the extremely clumsy original filter. the 35mm has a 52mm vented lens hood this avoids me the use of the original rubber lens hood ( beautiful but comes off all the time) Sunwayfoto L bracket and front grip. screen shield a spirit level where the flash hot shoe is
  6. kaizen is another word for “ work in progress! Because we don’t want you to wait for the results to be absolutely perfect, we are gonna give you what we have now, working as it may, or not, while we are working on it to make it better"
  7. I never had prefocus on so this might explain things. as for batteries being drained the solution is to have 3 or 4 ready at hand. Up until now 2 batteries is all I ever used during my not to intense photography sessions. At the very most I had to change batteries once while shooting. I have 3 and have never had to use all 3 of them. Would I ever reach the point that this becomes a problem I will buy more batteries ( after market ones made by other makers cost very little) or look for other batteries with higher capacity.
  8. there is now a new thread, started from an Admin, which in many ways duplicates this one ( this forum starts having lots of duplicates and becomes difficult to follow!) http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/topic/658-did-the-fuji-x-t1-fw-40-really-improve-the-autofocus-of-fujinon-lenses-the-answer-is-in-these-polls-one-for-each-lens/?do=findComment&comment=7407 In answer to @albuzz, I have a 35 and it seems to me that it does hunt a lot less now than it did before, but its performance is far from instantaneous when transitioning from close up to far away range and when operating in low light with whitish subjects showing no or low contrast.
  9. Those among us affected by a more or less pronounced form of OCD ( given what I am beginning to figure is the average profile of the average Fuji X owner, my guess is that the majority would show some of these symptoms) will obviously find it difficult to deal with this. However the more important question, especially for the non WR zoom owners is that , sooner or later, the dust inside your lens might be finding its way onto your sensor ( which is my worry having had a bad case of it on my first X camera the X-E1). I would also be interested to hear form WR owners whether their lenses are clean and stay clean over time.
  10. The real problem in conducting a poll or a survey on this matter is that all answers will be subjective because, none or very few of us, have actually conducted a meaningful and replicable test to camera and lenses prior to the update. It will be still possible to do both by re installing the old software, put a camera through a MEASURING and Quantifiable test, then install the new software and test again. Then compare. Otherwise all answers will be subject to large amount of observer expectancy effect ( which is the real name, in this case, of what you have called placebo effect). I too haven’t conducted a test that I could exactly replicate and after a couple of months of speculation and anticipation (and of being told by the ones who were given the first X-T10’s to test how fantastic the new performances will be) then comes the firmware which is supposed to turn our camera in the the next best thing since sliced bread and everyone starts partaking of the slices of the loaf as if it were hot cakes! Once the waves caused by the the feeding frenzy have settled we start asking ourselves if the gift of a new software was as good as we were told it was going to be and we start looking into the mouth of this horse, counting teeth and verifying its age. First of all I have to ask, have you read the manual with the explicit mention of the improvements? I have the feeling that, as in most cases, most people haven’t! Anyway. My opinion is that the new firmware has improved ( greatly and noticeably, my impression) the autofocus performance ( in single shot mode) of my 60mm and 35mm, not the speed, but the accuracy, by reducing or eliminating hunting, in most things with the exception of low light low contrast white subjects. The ( single shot) performance of the autofocus of the 10-24mm and the 50-230 is the same or ( for the 50-230) even a little less than it was before ( again, just an impression) The tracking is a different thing, this is a completely new function in many ways and very well performing, but I use and will use this function very little indeed in my photography. Where the expectations fail miserably is the eye recognition. Whereas the face recognition works just fine, the eye ( left eye is the subject left eye!) recognition is erratical to say the least. Because of this it is, in practice, unusable because works with no exact predictability. So, besides other improvements which one might or might not ever be aware of or use, the new firmware makes this camera more usable for the action photographer but when it comes to a person mostly shooting stationary subjects it has somewhat improved the performance of the oldest lenses of the system which were seriously lacking performance in the accuracy department ( the transitional speed is the same , I am afraid ). What I would have liked to see are some modes that are present on cheaper, amateurish cameras such as the humble X10 that I also own. The X-10 Advanced mode ( I use the portrait setting, which is shooting 2 or 3 pictures at the same time, one sharp and or or two less than sharp and then puts them all together in one shot) and the EXR mode ( which makes the camera usable by anyone so the occasional shooter doesn’t have to know anything about anything and the camera uses an intelligent mode to set itself INSTANTANEOUSLY in the best possible mode by analyzing the shot and deciding what kind of mode that would have to be) @Patrick FR this thread duplicates much of this other one http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/topic/658-did-the-fuji-x-t1-fw-40-really-improve-the-autofocus-of-fujinon-lenses-the-answer-is-in-these-polls-one-for-each-lens/?do=findComment&comment=7407 This forum is showing an increasing amount ( now, let alone in a few years!) of threads that are duplicating another thread, under these circumstances soon it will become extremely confusing for those who answer because they no longer will know whether they are answering one thread or one of the many similar ones. The staff should, whenever possible, amend threads and and incorporate whatever parts are common in order to keep things together. Also it would be necessary to remind people to try to see whether some other thread already exist before posting something that might be a duplicate of other things already posted. I know from different fora that this is one problem without a solution but it is very important otherwise one might as well periodically throw out the entire content of the forum ( what’s the point in keeping infpormation if it becomes impossible to retrieve it since it is diluted in countless threads on the same subject?) and save expensive space
  11. especially because it is of no consequence either way...
  12. no if it doesn’t do anything is just the way a led works when high performance is switched on. if nothing harmful happens it is not a bug, it is what it is. I have given you a fact, rather than an opinion. LED do this thing of staying switched on, for some time after using, even if if the switch is off. It is a LED own characteristics.
  13. it is not but the new kid on the block is getting all the attention, sooner or later it too will be come yesteryear news. One day ( maybe soon) my X-T1 won’t be the most advanced camera of the system. Will still take the same pictures of when it was the most advanced cameras though! Just enjoy it and have no spite for something that would bring you no more joy. I used to like having up to date clothes, now, I don’t care all that much anymore. I am still happy to wear shoes which I’ve bought 15 years ago and are still very nice.
  14. if it produces no damage it is neither a feature nor a bug.
  15. the X-E2 was an expensive camera and now is a much cheaper one. In Dutch shops the body costs the same as a X-10 body and they tell me at the shop where I normally buy my things that nobody is buying X-E2 bodies.
  16. for the simple reason that if they were to do that the X-E2 and the X-10 would be almost identical! Surviving in this market means selling new cameras and although there is customer satisfaction to deal with, pleasing customers bringing they old camera to have the same performance of the newest model is all about losing sales of all those who would be tempting to upgrade the older model for the new one.
  17. a phenomenon is only a problem if it causes undesirable effects, this might be a case of “ a little knowledge is dangerous” ( Alexander Pope knew about this in the 17th century already! )
  18. the macro option no longer exists in the new firmware and the lens transitions from long to short distances range is continuous. Fujifilm France has reassured that the X-E2 customers too would receive a certain unspecified amount of Kaizen for their cameras. Neither the type or amount of “ improvements” were specified nor was the waiting time. In theory your camera might receive the same firmware but if there were the case there would be hardly any difference between the X-E2 and the X-T10. In my opinion, and I written this many times over here, this would make absolutely no marketing sense. On the other hand one can hope that they Samurai spirit would not contain the shrewdness of the western marketing but I am afraid that kind of thinking is not logic but wishful.
  19. I really had to go into a room with NO light at all to see what you were talking about and even then it was so faint a light that could hardly be seen (in my camera that is!). Are you not talking of something which might have been there even before this firmware update and that might be something always happening in LED ( and other types of light, including many types of fluorescent tubes?). Internet is FULL of this about LED staying on after being switched off, google it and you will see threads like this all over the place! http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?283847-LED-s-glow-when-off http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r29769855-Lighting-LED-Bulbs-staying-on
  20. My hands are fairly large without being shovels ( size 11 to 12 in gloves terms you will see that L or XL varies while a number for size is a better and more objective comparison element), so I’ve never been too comfortable with small cameras such as the Olympus OM series of when I was young . Some other hand problems are due to a number of conditions affecting my hands and after carpal tunnel surgeries to both my hands ( and being affected by thumb arthritis at each thumb) I have lost quite a bit of finger dexterity and often drop objects although I play saxophone. Despite this I find the X-T1 well suited to my hands, and, although I have added an extra L bracket with front grip, I have to say that it makes very little difference because the front grip is really not very big. Also the other controls, mostly thumb or forefinger activated, are not too difficult to use. Maybe playing saxophone helps me and having had a go at playing german bassoon, where the left thumb plays 10 different notes, puts things in a different perspective.
  21. I disagree, the 23, naturally, shouldn't perform well at f1.4 if it doesn’t there is something wrong with the lens or the camera handling the software which administrates the lens (even raws are “ corrected” for the lens) If anyone goes through the bother and expense to make a lens to perform at 1.4 ( whichever focal lens) they want the lens to be used at 1.4 since it is one of the main selling points ( but not for me) and the customers certainly bought it because of the possibility to perform ( and perform well) at that aperture. Besides in this interview Mr. Ueno (product planner for the X series cameras) declares: http://fujifilm-blog.com/2015/06/30/interview-with-mr-takashi-ueno-from-fujifilm-tokyo-why-dont-fujifilm-make-full-frame-dslr/ “ Mr. Ueno: Here is an example. It is generally believed that the lens performs at its best with 1 to 2 stop down from the maximum aperture. We tried to break the norm. Because if there is such belief, then the lens is very unlikely to perform at its best from corner to corner with the aperture wide open. But if we can break the norm, then we will achieve bokeh and sharpness that is equivalent to that of a full frame with 1 to 2 stop down. We can achieve the image quality that is equivalent to that of full frame...."
  22. Well, I have fiddled around with my 60 mm these last couple of days and it appears to be quicker than it ever was with very little hunting compared to its performance prior to the new firmware. There are some caveats though. When dealing with rapid changes between infinity and short distances the limit is of course the speed of its motor and I am afraid that no amount of firmware could improve that! What is improved is low light AF performance while the capability of dealing with low contrast subjects, especially when dealing with the “ white” color seems to be less than satisfactory.
  23. I can only hope that that is NOT a distinctive trait of lenses overtly MEANT to be used at their maximum opening ( I wonder why on earth they put an aperture on the 56 and 23 if most people declare never stop them down !) . Would this not to be the case something is rotten in the state of... Japan!
  24. I in fact I had attempted to suggest to OP to buy one of these cameras. My intention was to advise against his choice for a case , maybe I chose the wrong words to make precisely that suggestion. There were talks of bringing back the Nikonos which wasn’t only the smallest and perhaps the best underwater camera for all those many years and throughout the many series, but was the best cameras to use on a trip into the unknown resisting ,way better than anything else, to the elements. The camera was used for years by the scientist and adventurer Redmond O’Hanlon
