4K Recording overheating issue that even Fujifilm Service could not find the solution

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have an overheating issue with recently purchased X-T2. I am using it with VPB-XT2 vertical Power Booster Grip with 2 brand new Fuji Genuine NP-W126S Batteries.

This issue has occurred when I was out to film a conference presentation for a client. I was recording in 4K25p. After recording 26-28mins, it started to shows overheating status and I was gradually feeling the heat on my hand skin. From that moment, the nightmare has begun. Within 12-16mins, the camera shut down and it kept failed to record, even if I restarted the camera for more than 3 mins. I don't think I have a problem with a memory card as I have bought recommended 2 SD: Sandisk Extreme Pro SDXC/V30/U3/C10/UHS-I/95MB/s R. Thus I gave up using X-T2 and let it cool down for 1hr. During that time I have used my backup Canon but even after cool down X-T2 still behave and wouldn't let me record more than 18 mins at first and continue with 3 mins recording due to overheating. I was extremely disappointed in X-T2 as it almost ruined my work that day.

Thus I have tested in a various recording method with the different format such as 10 mins recording consecutively and with/out power booster grip and/or downgrade from 4K to 1080 p. It just didn't record over 30 mins. It shows overheating status and shuts down. I can not use a camera like this, I don't mind press record every 10 mins or change battery every 30mins I don't mind them as long as it can last 3 hrs recording but X-T2 is not capable of recording any form of video more than 30 mins at the moment.

Henceforth I have contacted Fuji Global Service and the response came 4 days later and another nightmare has begun as Fujifilm product does not have global service but purchase region only. I went to the national service center but because the product is not locally covered it has to send to where I have purchased. Somehow online purchase backfire to me and I had to contact them again to get service. Now it sent and returned without an issue has been rectified as HongKong service center cannot find the cause of the issue. I am holding a camera with overheating issue that cannot use for work.

Is there any solution for this overheating nightmare? If anyone has any idea, please let me know. Thank you for the patient reading my first experience with Fujifilm.

True.

Although I have only used in a conference, it still needs to be used in other location. if this camera can not last less than 30 mins in total from overheating, this camera is useless in any form of filmmaking, isn't it?

    • The backslashes you are referring are just symbols denoting path.  Once you import into these LUTS into Davinci Resolve those backslashes are removed by default and you only see is the true file name which has no backslashes.  Convince yourself of this by opening the LUT folder from the Davinci Resolve Project Settings.  Do you see any backslashes in those LUT names? Of course not.  The only name you see is the one that has the underscores and the periods. These LUTS work as designed without having to change any path names.  However, they need to be set up properly through CSTs and by what is supported in Davinci Resolve.  Hence, the FLog2C film simulation LUTS cannot be used because Davinci Resolve does not support Fuji Gamut color space and the FLog2C gamut. Alternatively, Davinci Resolve does support Flog2 film simulation LUTS because the color space for FLog2 is Rec 2020 and there is an FLog2 gamut. If all you are doing is changing the path names then you are not getting the correct results.
    • I found the reddit topic i refere to :  https://www.reddit.com/r/davinciresolve/comments/1pc3f1e/cant_apply_new_fujifilm_gfx_55_lut/ "Update for y'all, It's just like what @ExpBalSat said, it's because of the backslashes in the names break them. I changed the file name and it works now. "   For me it was the solution. Realy annoying if it doesn’t work for you 😕
    • Here is the solution to using the Eterna 55 file simulation LUTs in Davinci Resolve.   In general, do not use the FLog2C to film simulation LUTs as they are not supported by Davinci Resolve for two reasons: 1) Davinci Resolve does not support Fuji Gamut Color Space and 2) Davinci Resolve does not support FLog2C gamma.  Instead, use Flog2 which is supported by Davinci Resolve.  Here is an example.  Let's say that you want to use Classic Chrome simulation.  Do the following: Complete your color grade and use a CST to get to Rec 709. Add a node.  Use a CST to convert from Rec 709 to FLog2.  Output Color space is Rec 2020 and Outout Gamut is FLog2. Add a node.  Apply the FLog2 to Classic Chrome LUT Create a combination node from node in steps 2 and 3. Apply a Key to the combination node and adjust the Key Output Gain to get the amount of the combination node that you want applied. So that you do not have to do this over and over again, generate a LUT for the combination node.  Remember to turn off all other nodes before generating the LUT. Hope this helps others. Don
    • Thanks for the insights. I think it's really hard to make a decision without having the two side by side!
