The XF 70-300 seems plenty sharp to me, it might need some practice and familiarity to get the best out of it (like all longer telephoto lenses). It's very good value too. It isn't something for street photography though, that is usually done with shorter lenses (think 16, 18, 23, 27, 35, 50mm from the Fuji prime line-up). Longer lenses drag the background into the scene flattens the space, and the long working distance reduces the feeling of being in the scene.

I should have added that I agree that a long lens is not what you need for street. Street is not easy. You have to be bold and learn to get close. Not easy I know. The 70mm end of the 70-300 would be usable for portraits but if you want a zoom for that, a lens with 50mm in its range would be a better choice.

You can read through all the forums and find every Fujifilm lens is not sharp or every Fujifilm lens is the best thing since sliced bread you need to make your own decisions, hire your preferred choice my your own mind up.
