I've been trying to research on film simulation modes and couldn't find information on certain settings people use.

Let's say for Provia film simulation mode, what settings would you set DYNAMIC RANGE, HIGHLIGHT TONE, SHADOW TONE, COLOR, SHARPNESS, and NOISE REDUCTION?

I've also seen people use different settings for the other film simulations. ACROS G Filter, ASTIA, VELVIA, and CLASSIC CHROME.

Can some of you share which settings work well for you under different film simulations? I'm going to try to write them down and try using them.

Thank you and happy holidays.

Shadows +2, highlights +1, sharpness 0 of +1 for soon jpeg for colour profiles.

For Acros I add more shadows.

Sometimes you need to adjust with the built in raw converter, one setting for all occasions is not something I recommend.

Check out Patrick Laroque, his blog has some articles on jpeg settings.

For Dynamic Range, which is principally a JPG help, I tend to use Auto which chooses between 100 or 200 on the later cameras, or sometimes set to 100, which is Dr off.

For the others, which are also JPG only attributes I tend to leave them set at 0.

If you want to experiment take an image in RAW and use the in-camera convertor to "develop" multiple copies, each with a different set of shadow, highlight etc changes. You can then compare them yourself. I found after experimenting that I was happy with the default settings.

If you take RAW files forget all the JPG settings and just alter everthing in post production.
