I'm thinking of getting an xt1 with these lenses:

  • 14mm f2.8
  • 18mm f2
  • 35mm f1.4

I've read the 10-24mm is supposed to be more versatile than 14, the 18 wouldn't be better than 18-55 and the 35 f2 should be sharper than 35 f1.4.

I'm not sure to what extent this is all true but I happen to like the 14-18-35mm distribution. Am I missing something?

I haven't tried Fuji yet but from my dslr experience, 18 & 35 (28 & 50mm eq.) are a perfect pair and 14mm follows suit. I think 14 is plenty wide, and the aperture allows for some very close photojournalism.

Anyone using the same lens set?

I own, or have owned, all the lenses you mentioned with the exception of the 10-24mm. The 14mm is brilliant--great color and contrast, sharp corner to corner wide open, and just the right size. I used this lens, along with the 18mm 2.0 and 35 1.4, quite a bit on a recent trip to Sweden and Denmark.  I alternated the 35mm 1.4 with the newer 35mm F2. The latter is a good lens--quiet, fast focusing, and well constructed. However, I still prefer the rendering and extra light the 1.4 offers. Wide open it's less sharp on the edges, but this creates a beautiful effect for portraits. Stopped down to f4 or more I think it's sharper in the corners than the new lens. I think you'll find many opposing opinions on this, so I would suggest you go to flickr and compare the images shot by each and decide for yourself. The 35 f2 feels great on my X Pro2, but I definitely prefer the rendering of the 1.4. The 18mm is also a great little lens on the X Pro2. It's not sharp on the edges, so not as good for landscape, but great for street photography. I've owned two copies of the 18-55mm. It's a handy travel lens and is quite sharp for a zoom. I find the rendering to be a bit flat and prefer the look (as well as the size and light gathering) of the 18mm f2. Again, this is a lens with very divergent reviews, so... again check it out on flickr. https://www.flickr.com/photos/129036685@N06/

Cheers!

^Agreed.

The 10-24mm is more versatile for some things due to the focal length, but as someone who shoots a lot of people photos and in lower light (weddings, events, etc) I'd take the extra stop of light gathering over the flexibility of the zoom.

I own the 18mm and 35mm 1.4. The 1.4 isn't the fastest autofocusing lens, and I wouldn't suggest it as a primary lens for low light event coverage, but for daytime shooting and low light portraiture, it's perfectly fine. Image quality is great, and it's an incredible lens.

The 18mm is an interesting option. Image quality is good (other than the extreme edges), autofocus is faster than the 35 1.4, and it's very small for an f/2 lens. It's definitely underrated - it's a good lens, it's just that the other Fuji primes are a bit better so it gets ignored.

The lenses you mentioned cover a very useful focal length range, and they're all great. If that's what you like, go for it - you won't be disappointed.
