Coming from a Nikon D7000, I had a Sigma 18-35 f1.8 zoom lying around collecting dust.
(If you don't know, this is widely regarded as the best zoom lens for APSC DSLRs)

So what I did was ordered a Metabones lens adapter and stuck it on my XT1!

DSCF9592

My findings

- Sharper than the fuji 18mm f2 @ 18mm 1.8, especially at the edges
- Very very close to the Fuji 35mm 1.4 when shot at 35mm 1.8
- HUGE. People thought I was using a telephoto lens.
- Quite heavy. Definitely throws the XT1 off balance.
- Very nice bokeh

Just a bit of fun, thought I would share :)

Awesome image quality, just with HUGEness, HEAVYness and MF of course.

Ask if you have questions :)

Just have one question. You change aperture by using the ring on the metabones? So the smallest aperture will be f/7?

Of course not, they simply numbered the position of the dial so that it's easier to see what you're doing,

but a different lens will have different values to those numbers of course. It should have the full aperture range that you normally do.

And to be clear, this is not the SpeedBooster, so it doesn't do anything other than adapting it to Fuji X-mount, though with the metabones quality built and precision.

that sounds like a great lens.   Take a look at the other thread here where it beats all of Nikon FF primes in the range on a cropped sensor Nikon body. Even in the corners where you would think the FF lens would have an advantage because they are using best part of the lens with the cropped area.

Zooms and 3rd parties like Sigma and Tamron have come a long way.  Too bad Fuji is not as big as Nikon or Canon to draw Sigma and Tamron. Both are doing outstanding job lately in the premium segment. Maybe even better than Fuji on lens. Hard to tell.

Seems clear to me that Fuji, Sigma and Tamron believe that the days of low end budget items are gone. The gloves have come off and they are giving it all they got in lens based on quality instead of price.

Hi! I would like to talk to you about the adaptor! Did you find that the aperture ring works ok? Does it really close down the aperture effectively? I heard in some places that it causes vignetting, but I was wondering if it really did close down the aperture.... and change depth of field. Did you find that it satisfied you in that sense?

All your photos were wide open, so thats why I'm asking. :)

Btw, can you share the exact model you used?

Thanks you!!

Hello!

The aperture ring works absolute fine :) I've shot some houses (outdoor) for a job using this adapted lens. I set the aperture to around F8, and it worked great. Haven't tried setting it any smaller than that, but I can do some tests for you later :)

Exact model is "Metabones Nikon G Lens to Fujifilm X-Mount"

I regularly use the Sigma 18 35 F 1.8 Art on my Fuji X-E1 with a Rayqual Nikon G to Fuji XF adapter.

The adapter has a tripod mount, which helps a lot for landscape shot and to reduce flange mount stress from heavy lenses.

The results are stunning, performance is better than fuji primes in the same range and f-stop. I tested it against my XF 23mm 1.4 and 35mm 1.4 and in both cases the Sigma is sharper and has better control of chromatic aberrations and spherochromatism.

Performance on a Fuji X-A2 body is even better wide open. I suspect it may be due to a different sensor glass depth?
