autofocus malfunction

Half press does not affect the autofocus. 
it just happens with no apparent reason.
until now though after a while it gets OK.
any ideas what can be done?

has someone else noticed?
since it started just after updating the cameras software (and afterwards the lenses- didn't help), i believe it might be connected.

i use the Xt-3 and 18-55 f2.8-4.5 kit lens.
