The Intstant Focus worked that way also in fw 4.0 (just without Lock), and I was using that all the time. New thing in fw 4.20 - Lock is added to Instant Focus in M mode. If you keep holding AF-L after Instant Focus - Manual Ring still can not be used. Also you can choose if Lock is applied to AF or AF+AE in this case.
