GilBarib got a reaction from Vladimir in Fuji-X Sport: Ice Canoe Racing
Hi All !
This is a classic here during the Winter Carnaval, this sport is very specific to the St-Lawrence River and it's history, I don't think there is any other place where you can see something like it. This really active and dynamic sport is very demanding for the athletes, in this race the pro class will do a total of 15 km, crossing the river three time. During the winter there is a total of 7 races along the St-Lawrence River, and lucky me, two of them are in my home town, Quebec City.
Not much ice on the river this year made it easy and fast for the "canoteurs", but it was less spectacular for us the spectators and photographers. Never the less it was a great opportunity for some good action shot.
Here's a link to the Wikipedia article about the sport: Ice canoeing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I used mostly my X-T1 with the Xf50-140mm + XF1.4 TC and a second body, my good old X-E1, paired with the XF16-55 for close shoot. I was standing right by one of the three buoys delimiting the race course, so it was easy to get some shots of the canoes coming toward me.

GilBarib got a reaction from Vladimir in Fuji-X Sport: Baja SAE Endurance Racing
Hi again!
Here is a few pics from l'Épreuve du Nord, a SAE mini-Baja endurance race. The Engineering Department at Laval University has been hosting the northernmost race in the circuit for the last 11 years, it's also the only one to take place in the snow !
It's the second time that I get a chance to shoot this really amazing and gruesome 2 hours event, out of the 27 Bajas on the starting line only 14 will make it to the end!

GilBarib got a reaction from Rieke in Fuji-X Sport: Slalom and Free Style Ski
Thanks ! For these I used de Zone mode , 3x3 grid for the Free Style and a mix of 5x3 and 3x3 grids for the Slalom
Hi ! Thanks too ! Wide Tracking will use the outer (and slower) CDAF points on the sensor, it is better to stick to the central hybrid CDAF/PDAF points for fast subject, either with Zone or Single
Here are the settings on my X-T1 when I'm shooting sports
High Performance Mode is On,
Pre AF is On,
AF-Mode mostly on Zone, 5x3 grid or 3x3, and only the central PDAF points are used, I'll use Single Point if the subject is a busy pack of athletes to keep the AF from jumping from one to the other.
Release /Focus Priority is set to Focus (both for Af-S and Af-C),
Face detection = Off
Eye detection = Off
Shutter on MS only.
AF is on Continuous and the Drive Mode is on CH (8fps),
My EVF is set to Normal, not Full
LMO is On (even if I'm shooting RAW only)
I'm shooting RAW only with a 300mb/sec 64gb SD UHS II, no problems with the buffer.
I usually aim and half-press the shutter while tracking the subject, I'll then fire a short burst when the subject is close to the optimum distance.
The hard part is aiming during the black out, practice and anticipation is the key, but I'm sure I'm going to love the X-T2
Thanks again
Gilles

GilBarib reacted to Mike Dunbar in Fuji-X Sport: Long Track Speed Skating
That's probably the clincher for me. I moved from Canon to Fuji two years ago for street photography, fine art, landscapes. Everything except sports, for which I'm still using a 1D. These great images say the XT-1 is sports ready.
