cosinaphile got a reaction from Matt Sweadner in That 35mm f1.4 magic in other Fujinon lenses?
i love the 14mm and dont consider it as clinical in character as some , its pin sharp but with a filmic render imho... the love fo the 35 mmm1.4 is well placed its quite a special lens and i use it frequently
i do love my 56mm 1.2 1nd also the kit zoom 18-55 2.8-4.... my favorite kit zoom anywhere ever ... unequaled by anyone
a n y o n e
the 55 200 is kind of sweet too

cosinaphile got a reaction from Eeuw in Do we tolerate the bodies because of the lens qualities?
i like fuji bodies , my 2 favorite being the xe2 and x30...i have less fun with my xpro2 , and im very fond of my x100s\x100 also, the problems mentioned are found in all makers cameras nikon canon olympus etc alll have their share of issues
but the fuji bodies , in spite of somewhat illogical menus have controls schemes i consider essential with ss and aperture dials that are almost unique in the industry .they have quality evfs and styling and superior build quality ,materials and heritage [ japanese construction] at an affordable cost..... this synergy is unique in the industry
the quality lenses .... best kit lens in history.... build and optics is great too... legacy lens friendliness...yes
but the lenses would mean less to me on a sony body or canikon plastic amorphous meteorite formfactor etc.
the fuji body and lens pairing is close to ideal , as far as im concerned

cosinaphile got a reaction from Testlight in Fujifilm Will Announce a “Never Rumored Before” X-series Camera in 2016!
lots of good info , but i cannot believe fuji will not have an enthusiast zoom compact with an evf.....its unthinkable to me
my point isnt about sentimentality but rather a market segment fuji has yet to dive into that panny sony nikon and canon all explore
i inch compacts
fuji has distinguished itself in the enthusiast sector part of that corporate mentality and direction is to serve one of the few remaining categories of cameras ,.....the enthusiast zoom compact ... i believe fuji will continue to offer a counterpoint to cameras like the sony i inch compacts , now in their 5th iteration

cosinaphile got a reaction from karin.gottschalk in A plea to Fuji ...
i too would love ibis in the fuji bodies .... its true one cant have everything , i dont miss touchscreens , but fast primes like the 56 1.2 etc could benefit with some ois love if fuji persists in no ibis
i love fuji too but often fuji stays home and the pen f comes out to play with a nikkor w 50 1.4 or a 105 2.5 and a speedbooster xl that adds 1 1\3 stops of light and bokeh action.... with the excellent ibis of the pen the fuji cant touch it for available light work in darkened conditions

cosinaphile got a reaction from Servaas in Sent PRO 2 for repair
thats unfortunate .... ive got dirty contact issues with all my fuji cameras , it sounds like extra cleaning with alcohol ans a small wooden stick on the battery and camera contacts might have been the remedy , the celluose of the wood stick is very mildly
abrasive scouring away oxidation
xe1 xe2 xpro2 x20 x30

cosinaphile got a reaction from Photolographer in a successful adapted 6400 mh battery pack for fuji x system ILC`s
i began this thread as the discussion of an experiment for the use of a pair 18650 lithium rechargable for a extended battery for all day shooting possibly 2 day shooting with alll day camera on and lots of review chimping and in camera raw processing ..., a benefit , in my eyes
and correcting the problem of an under-powered system battery the np 126.....
i dont know why this has devolved into the merits of economical shooting and the criticism of shooting a lot of images ..... there is no "right " way to shoot some might try to treat a digital apsc as a view camera and shoot 2 images and some might blast a series of 30 shots during a moment of intense sports action multiple times during the day and the rest of the faithful something in between slow and methodical is something i enjoy i also like to shoot high speed for action shots sometimes
heres a simple truth to wrap your head around: canon and nikon and pentax slr batteries are 1800 1900 mah [7.2 to 7.4v]
power cells.... close to double the typical mirrorless cell which i believe to be the most valid criticism of mirrorless in general by those considering a switch.
the backpack solar array is interesting but im sure my homemade battery base will work fine while adding less than 1\2 inch to the base of my x pro 2 ... the highly rated nitecores are SAFE, PROTECTED, and fully compliant with modern safety battery standards ,,, something i cannot claim for aftermarket np 126 china cells which i now use ........ i will not buy 60 dollar fuji np126 cells.
i intend to do a real world test on the x pro 2 [ not the xa1 again ] to see how long they last in my regular usage patterns [ i use single shot with chimping and in camera raw processing mostly ].
i suspect 1 to 2 days shooting keeping 5 fuji batteries or 3 at all times and making sure the charge is full
is a chore id sooner not do

cosinaphile got a reaction from Aswald in a successful adapted 6400 mh battery pack for fuji x system ILC`s
well i know many users of the x pro 2 wish it had a larger capacity battery than the np 126 ... i certainly do .
recently i got the idea to try using off the shelf large capacity batteries designed for high drain applications and decided on the well trusted 18650 which look like a AA battery on steroids
18650 are 18mm diam. 65mm in length and o shape in cross section they vary wildly in quality due to cheap chinese imports and bootlegs ...but a trusted retailer can supply good ones for about 10 - 15 usd each thy vary in mah from about 2000 to 3400 mah and all output about 3.7 volts [ mine tested 4.14 and 4.19 on 2 cells ] i used new nitecores x2 [3200mh]
my first adapted battery is experimental ...2 nitecores 18650 in series 3.7v x 2 for 7.4 volts the plastic shell of an expired aftermarket battery some speaker wire and surgical tape [clear]
i purchased a new xa1 on craigslist for 100 dollars and inserted the battery shell with the proper polarity wires in place it was tight but it closed up nicely with the wires exiting the compartment at the tabbed corner,,, the batteries and wire leads boud up together as tightly as possible both were 100 % charged
i didnt want to risk my x pro 2 or xe2... so the guinea pig was the xa1 with a pentax 50mm 1.7 legacy lens in m mode
the test
i turned on the camera and was delighted to see the LCD panel lit and ready
first part 200 shots with flash with pauses for simulated chimping scrolling enlarging the 1000 shots
high speed the some chimping another 100 flash shots another 1000 high speed shots ect etc etc also tried various other modes various bracketing single burst multi and so on .
finall tally 10,070 shots lots of chimping and reviewing 500 flash shot and i was tired 2 hours in i decided to see how much juice remained
the nitecore charger reported the 2 batteries has 83 and 84 percent power remaining after the test
the xa2 never showed the battery below full.
before the test the 2 batteries reported about 4.14 v after test 3.97..... i estimate the cells could easily
50,000 to 60,000 shots with many hours of chimping the camera got a little warm after about 5000 shots but the batteries remains cool the whole test
im very please d with this first test .....thoughts anyone
on to a real battery pack for my x pro 2...........

cosinaphile got a reaction from Curiojo in X-E3 Concept
while i share your enthusiasm for an xe2 successor .....i must add two provisos to your vision....
firstly i do not understand why it needs to look like a baby xpro model , keeping the body the same as or nearly the same as the xe1 xe2 xe2s bodies allows fuji much more simplicity and cost savings over tooling for a new body form increasing the likelyhood of it being produced where margins may be thin.........secondly , a inbuilt flash is absolutely useful and desirable in a camera .....any camera, for at least these these few reasons
~ for fill flash in daylight to make shadows less harsh....{.yes its weak but its usable up to 1\250 [ beyond 180 on mine ] at iso 100 with high f stops almost always helpful }
~ for emergency flash ... some flash is better than no flash if you dont have a mounted flash and have no other recourse .
~ for triggering off camera flashes ....highly useful multiple tiny slaves can be a blast ....try it
In my world where just having Fuji produce it is of major importance ....i would want fuji to make these improvements
the 24 mp sensor of course
latest process engine
fastest processor biggest buffer...manageable
change algorithms for noise reduction to end the "waxy skin " phenomenon
higher res evf
. and icing on the cake would be a updated lcd panel and a higher GN for the inbuilt flash
that would make me happy

cosinaphile got a reaction from Curiojo in Looking for a lens to get 'real' 35mm
ive used the nikon 35mm f2 ais with the first speed booster it gains a stop of light and a full frame bokeh signature ....its not nearly as sharp as the fuji 23 ... but it gets the job done and has a lovely old school render ...its a little soft in the corners but i like it just the same

cosinaphile reacted to madmaxmedia in Stop The Waxing!
Hi Paul, I think it has to be a JPEG engine issue only, if the workaround of shoot RAW at -2 EXP COMP, and then push-processing 2 stops in-camera eliminates the problem completely.
What the workaround does is basically apply Fuji ISO 1600 NR, to ISO 6400 images. And the resultant JPEG's looks absolutely fine. It's possible that they might have incrementally more noise than first-gen cameras due to different sensor, but even if so, that's not what people are complaining about- Fuji JPEG high-ISO noise looks incredibly organic- very fine with little blotchiness or harsh digital-looking artifacts, or chroma noise.
Does the X-A1 or X-M1 have first or second gen XTrans sensor? Because they also have the waxy skin effect.

cosinaphile reacted to Paul Crespel in Stop The Waxing!
Chrisgilesimages, I'm older than you, and started my career in photography in 1975, so I remember film well... but.... Canon, Nikon, Sony and others now produce cameras that go up to over 50k ISO, and although they produce grainy images, which is to be expected, none of them produce the wax effect. The wax effect is exclusive to Fuji... perhaps they've even patented it... but if all the other manufacturers can avoid the waxing, then so can Fuji. Technology has moved on, and we make use of it. We can now shoot in the dark with most cameras and smartphones, but Fuji is the only one that has wax effect.
Just a thought, maybe Fuji waxes because it's aimed at the Brazilian market :D

well i think the answers been said
i currently enjoy my xe1 and xe2 black bodies with latest firmware with many lenses both legacy and native fuji....... but by far my best legacy experience is reusing ....with adapters my excellent contax g system lenses .......the incredibly sharp, yet bokeh beautiful
45mm f2 planar, and lovely 90mm 2.8 sonnar...
i find them both better than any Leica or cosina voigtlander i also love and use . i us an inexpensive dedicated adapter for each which stays with the lens the 3 mf options regular enlarger focus peaking and digital split image all offer value in different situations
im a huge fan of contax lenses on fuji rangefinder styled bodies especially the xe2 obviously .....the beautiful build quality , and optical excellence and the tactile excellence of the user experience are truly a great enjoyment and photographic benefit to me.
im not a fan of SLR styled Fuji as excellent as they are. the xe2 s 16mp sensor is aging yes but its capable of astounding files with class leading iso and quality for its mp rating imho ....lastly the lenses compact build balances beautifully and gracefully on the fuji body in a manner that no native fuji lens does ,....sadly
cheers
