I recently experienced intermittent LCD blackout where the lcd refused to respond. Usually I would just switch the camera off and back on to rectify it. On the last occasion I had to leave the camera off for a few minutes to get the lcd to respond. One thing I have noted is that when the LCD refused to respond the camera still behaved perfectly using the EVF and continued to take pictures. The only other place I have seen this issue mentioned is on IamtheJeff when he lists what he believes to be firmware problems. Has anybody else encountered this?

is it possible that something activates the sensor which toggles between LCD and EVF (if you’ve set the camera to work with this?).

“....The eye sensor turns the viewfinder on when you put your eye to the viewfinder and turns it off when you take your eye away (note that the eye sensor may respond to objects other than your eye or to light shining directly on the sensor). If automatic display selection is enabled, the LCD monitor will turn on when the viewfinder turns off...."

My X-T2 is only 1 week old. I have experienced this issue too just this morning. I had the LCD screen tilted out at 45% angle when I faced this problem between shots. Moving the LCD screen back to its rest position got the LCD screen activated again.
