In order to see what shutter speed you are about to use when auto iso is selected you must depress the shutter half way.

This only displays the shutter speed if you have set the Shutter AE setting to ON which locks the shutter speed all the time it is depressed.

Works well to see the shutter speed in the evf, but if you are shooting a bird flying or someone running where the background changes during your motorised sequence, all the exposures are the same even though the background brightness could be changing rapidly.

There must be another way to display the shutter speed in auto iso without locking the exposure in this manner, any ideas?

Suggestion for firmware update fuji!

Hi there,

I'm not sure if it's a related issue but in aperture priority and Auto ISO the display fails to to show the anticipated shutter speed even with half depressed shutter button. That is, I only get to see what the shutter speed is after the photo is taken in the review, despite selecting this custom display options. When I select a specific ISO (disengage auto ISO) the shutter speed display returns.

Is the shutter speed display affected by auto ISO selection? Shutter speed was always displayed in auto ISO on the X100s and X-Pro2.

Regards

Nick

Hi Nick,

As I said, you must set the Shutter AE setting to ON not OFF if you want to see the shutter speed when you ½ depress the shutter.

Michael

Yes, this. Also, I asked this in the other topic on this too, why did you swith off AE-L to begin with? It's default is on if I recall correctly.

AE-L off is something I only recommend you switch off if shooting sports or wildlife and for some reason you are shooting with shutter speed at auto.

For everything else, best to leave it on.

Hi Tom/Nick,

Forgive me if I am wrong but we seem to be talking at cross purposes here.

I am asking you to switch ON the shutter AE setting in the Setup/Button Dial settings menu. This will allow you to

see the anticipated shutter speed when you ½ depress the shutter. Hope this clears your problem.

This has nothing to do with the AE-L which I never mentioned.

Shutter AE ON in the menu is the same as pushing ae-l. Ae-l can be forced via the ae-l button, or set to default on at half pressing the shutter button. Both are ways to lock the exposure, thus giving you the exposure settings.

If you switch it off in the menu and you don't push ae-l before taking a shot, you will obviously not get a shutter speed, because the camera has not locked the exposure settings and will only decide on the exposure when you fully press the shutter button, taking into account which metering mode and exposure compensation is set.
