AE-L/AF-L and button focus

On the X-Pro1, the same button is used in the AF modes for exposure lock (which I use quite often), and in MF mode for activating the autofocus. So that means I lose the AE-L functionality in MF mode.

Of course I can use "manual everything" mode, which is what I do for MF mode. But is there any way to assign the AE-L to another button, or to activate the AF via another means (without having to switch the selector back to AF mode, or having to upgrade to another camera).

At least on the X-T10 (I don't own an X-Pro1) when you shoot this way you don't loose the possibility to lock the exposure.

 

AE-L gets simply reassigned to the shutter button, meaning that an half press will lock the exposure (that, btw, is the way I've set all my cameras during the years anyway).

Good suggestion! That's worth trying. Still, it is not the same as the AE-L function, which you can configure to remain active between shots, until you cancel it.

True. In this regards, I wish Fuji gave us more freedom to reassign buttons etc., a bit like Olympus does (but not is such a messy way...).

So ... is it not possible to reassign the AE-L function in MF mode?

Apart from addicted2light's suggestion, it's awfully quiet in this thread ... surely some X-pert would have an idea?
