CF Express VS SD

Hey everyone, im new to fuji - just switching over sony. Im about to buy the Xh2 and am wondering if its really necessary to buy a CF express card? Any any features locked because of it?

Not ‘required’, but worth it in my opinion.. Transfer speeds etc, I’m happy with mine. I wish my 100s had it!

CExpress is a must for video ... a lot faster than any SD. For 200 EURO you can buy the excellent Angelbird AV PRO CFexpress 512 GB Type B 1785 MB/s.

I use both card types, but as I’m not interested in the video side of things I restrict both card sizes to 128mb. That way if there’s a corruption problem I’ll limit the size of the loss.

I use both SD and CFExpress can't say you really need the CFExpress unless you need those prores video. Personally i shoot stills and even using burst back then I could survive with the SD. Also just a hobbyist at this point so might be a factor on why the CFExpress might not matter to my use case.

I use both types of cards on my XH2 and XH2S. Some video settings require the CFexpress, which I try to use for all shooting because of the read/write speeds. I shoot landscape, sports, portraits and 4K video. If you stomp on the shutter in continuous shooting mode, speed in the camera and at home when importing is a real thing. I recently switched from Sandisk to Delkin Black, very solid construction and very fast to offload. B&H website states this for the Delkin Devices 150GB BLACK CFexpress Type B Memory Card.

• Min Write Speed: 1530 MB/s

Worth every penny, I would suggest. Delkin also sells a really robost card reader as well for SD & CFexpress.

Thank you!!!!! I wondered why I could not record Prores. Now I have rearranged so images go to slot 2 (SD) and video to slot 1 (CFE B).  Do you have any other special settings for video apart from Prores?

When I bought the X-H2 I only purchased the top rated Sabrent SDXC II 256GB SD card (wasn’t paying attention when I selected 256GB, could have settled with a smaller size) and was mystified at the fact I couldn’t do video but surmised it was the lack of a CFexpress card. I don’t do video but who knows what the future holds re my image making. I don’t shoot moving stories. 

I see myself more of a print maker where I go and capture plates and then process those plates in my studio. 

 

To summarize get a CFexpress card:

- if one is doing 4K ProRes video or other real fancy video 

- if one wants to cover your behind if a corruption problem occurs  

- when one wants to shoot lots and lots of single images very very fast 

- if one has lots of money to afford the card and reader 

- split file formats; jpgs on one card raw on the other (I only do raw so one card seems enough)
