I have an X-E1, 18-55, 50-230, an EF-X lens turbo and some adapters. I use these for "light" shooting and for my manual lenses, mainly M42 and Nikon. For the more demanding situations I use my Nikon outfit. I have been thinking of expanding and upgrading to an X-T10 and some additional optics, but lately I read a lot of posts on other fora about the EVF of the X-T10 and (upgraded) X-E2 becoming extremely noisy at low light. Especially with MF and focus aids (peaking) activated manual focusing in low light is said to have become a PITA.

Can anybody shed some light on this problem? I would not buy an X-T10 only to discover that it is practically useless for manual focus in less than perfect circumstances - in that case I might as well switch to Sony for manual focus and "light" shooting. So is this an incidental or a systematic problem? Is Fuji doing something about it? Can I safely buy an X-T10 (or X-E2) without jeopardizing my possibilities to use my camera in low light with manual focus lenses?

I'm occasionaly using Canon FD 55mm f/1.2 with X adapter to my X-T10. If you mean noise at low light in manual is appear only on the EVF, then the answer is yes. Even using proprietary XF lenses in manual will result coarse display in the EVF. However the result image is not affected. It remains the same low noise as usual.

Maybe anyone have other opinion over this?

There would be more noise if you stop down the lenses.

With adapted lenses you may want to adopt a style where you focus at full aperture and stop down just before shooting. But that is pretty much all you can do.

Also autofocus lenses are stopped down while you use them, if there is a way to avoid this I don’t know, because it has never bothered me I’ve never looked into solving a problem that isn’t there, for me.

Having a noisy image in the electronic viewfinder or the liquid crystal display screen is, I am afraid, when shooting below a certain light level unavoidable.

The X-E1 has also a much slower refreshing rate but other than that and the increased resolution, upgrading won’t do much or anything at all to improve the noise at low light level.
