There's no way to fix this, there's a fault with the front mechanism or sensor. I've went through all this for years, had multiple repairs, eventually it was just replaced by Fujifilm.

There's a chance there could be a small piece of dust floating around, so this is the cameras safety mechanism to just ask you to turn it off.

Remove the lens, use a blower upside down. See what that does.

I started having the same problem with the X-T4 over a year ago. And with almost all lenses. And the error when turning on the camera occurs more and more often.

This makes it almost impossible to use the camera in professional work. It turns out that you can't rely on it.

Before this, I had cameras from two other most popular manufacturers, and I never had this problem with them.

Very disappointed!

My X-T5 gave me the error this week. I was using the original XF 35mm F1.4 lens.

It was because I had the lens against a glass window and the focus movement was blocked by the glass.

Removed it from the glass, turned it off and on again, then it worked normally away from the glass surface.

I had the same problem with the XF27mm f2.8.

Found the below on a Reddit thread.

"There is apparently a design flaw with this lens that causes it to get stuck sometimes when the camera is turned off at the closest focal distance (i.e. when the lens is fully extended.)

The fix is to just push it back in manually (gently, of course.)"

It fixed the problem straight away.

I have the XT5, have been using the XF 33mm f1.4 and prior to this the XF 18-55 and have had this message appearing from time to time but then it started appearing more often. I finally took it to Fujifilm and they gave me this ridiculous diagnosis that the camera was exposed to liquid and that I needed to pay around 300 euros for repair. Needless to say that I have been taking good care of my camera and it was never in contact with any liquid.

I am very tired of Fuji as a whole... They automatically deny responsibility on issues, quote crazy high repair prices and timeframes and when I accepted a (refurbished" replacement 100-400 instead of a repair because to would be cheaper and faster it developed the exact problem a couple years later, My XT4 is absolutely unreliable because of the turn on turn off issue that has persisted through numerous attempts to fix it and my 10 to 24 would not focus at infinity and struggled to focus at all, and I went through two of them because of focus issues. My sigma is much better.

    • Found the simple answer to my own question. Having assigned Auto ISO to the rear dial, I only have to push in the dial to make the Auto ISO options appear, then turn the dial to choose. Nice and fast.

Digital rendered that excuse moot, so I now return with a recently purchased XT5. I am from the Hudson River Valley in New York where I have spent the past five decades engaged in environmental work, mostly on the Hudson. I teach at Pace University where I direct the Gale Epstein Center for Technology, Policy and the Environment. My project ahead is documenting the unseen Hudson, a combination of the obscure, under-appreciated, and invisible - a street-style approach to people, places and things that make the river what it is. There will be little landscape, if any. The "Mighty Hudson" is well-documented. If nothing else, it will be a mission-driven project to bring me back to photography while learning my camera.     • Hi,   I would really appreciate if someone could answer this question. Is it possible to have the X-T4 shoot in AF-S for photo mode and AF-C in video mode while the front lever is left at AF-S?  If so, how would this be done or wher in the menu system would I set this up? This is similare to setting the apeture at f/2.8 for photo mode but fioming at f/4 in video which I already have setup. Thanks and kind regards
    • According to the manual you can assign auto ISO to any one of the function buttons but I've never tried it. (It's not something I frequently change so all my function buttons do other things.)
    • Hello, I have a new xt5 and have enjoyed its setup, until now. I hope someone with patience can help me through my ISO dilemma. My question: I have assigned settings for Auto ISO 1,2 and 3.  Should I be able to select Auto ISO 1, 2, or 3 for a shot? If so, how?  Or is the camera supposed to. At present, my screen shows Auto ISO 3, and never changes. I assigned ISO to the rear dial to no effect. Of course, when I half depress the shutter button is see the actual ISO in real time, but the function of the Auto ISO and how to control it has me confused. Thanks for any help.
