  1. 16 - 70 f/4? I'm in! Especially if... weather resistant and video compatible (quiet focus like Canon's STM lenses or, alternatively, 'truly' manual focus)...
  2. I own both but prefer the 60mm 2.4. Advantages - prefer the field of view (more 'compression') - yes it does make a difference to me - lighter and smaller (less intrusive) - close focus capability - lovely metal hood - relatively cheap now Focus speed with original x-pro 1 firmware was slow. But.... with the X-t1 (any firmware version) or updated x-pro 1 it's just.... normal! Honestly - I find Fuji focussing not that speedy overall - even the 56mm is a bit laggy in my book. But the 60mm performs no differently from any macro lens I've used on Canon or Nikon. Macro lenses are never speed demons. But the 60 I use regularly for people photography and have no complaints. You will not get quite as shallow depth of field as the 56mm - but personally "creamy bokeh" at the expense of composition never does it for me. You'll have to crank up the ISO a little more in low light. But consider that the f/ 2.4 is only half a stop short of the f/ 2.0 lenses we all love, including on the x100. Try it out. Rent or borrow it. And decide for yourself. If you can't do that - look on http://fujifilm-x.com/photographers/en/#main to see what kind of images are possible to make with it and/or on Flickr etc. Ultimately they are two different lenses.
  3. This has a grain of truth to it (if you are talking about RED of Black Magic etc) but the reason why, for example, I shoot with a Panasonic is that I get incredible video output, decent stills (not as good stills as Fuji, but pretty damn fine) smaller/ lighter lenses (PanaLeica - great) and familiar handling all in one camera. If I know I'm only going out to shoot stills I take my Fuji X-T1 or X-Pro1, for sure. I even use Fuji in the studio (sold my Canon gear a couple of years ago). But more and more, I go out to shoot wanting the option of stills or video and only want to take one system with me. The reality is that I'm going to use what's in my hands. And increasingly that's my Panasonic. I'm not a video professional: all I want is 1) Nice clean output 2) Minimal to no moire/ aliasing 3) Manual control during shooting 4) 'Neutral' mode suitable for grading in post-production 5) 4K Note that 4K comes last on the list. I can record audio separately so I haven't even put mic/ headphone sockets in. Getting rid of that moire is far more important than upgrading the feature set Fuji!
  4. I'm with you on importance of Fuji implementing good video. I'd sell all my MFT gear and buy more Fuji gear if they could only improve the video output. Can't see it happening.... but it doesn't stop me dreaming.
  5. I much prefer the stills output of Fuji over Panasonic. I much prefer the movie output of Panasonic - hence I run 2 systems. GX8 looks nice but the stills output (judging by samples available on the web) won't persuade me to sell my Fuji gear. Regarding the comments above re: MFT bodies not being that much smaller than Sony FF.... that is no longer the point. It's all about lens size - there is a massive difference in size/ weight terms between a MFT set of lenses and a FF set (of "equivalent" focal lengths/ max aperture). My shoulders will gladly testify to this (as a previous FF shooter). There's even an appreciable difference between APS-C and MFT when it comes to lens size/ weight.
  6. Exciting times.... but will a new Sony sensor mean better video performance? Fuji explicitly state that the X-Trans was developed for stills, and some have commented that the sensor itself causes problems for video. If this is the case, and a Sony sensor (instead of X-trans) improves the video..... I will be truly torn. I would hate to lose the stills quality and fuji character (especially the colour).... On the other hand, I'd really like to rationalise my kit and just run a single system - I'm currently shooting Fuji for stills and Panasonic for video. If Fuji could come up with at least one hybrid camera in their line-up that was squarely aimed at video+stills shooter I'd be over the moon.
