Hi everyone. (Hmm, somehow I thought the photos would show up with the text...) Received my XH1 today. I am still going trough that phase where one holds it as Gollum holds his precious... so I won't be criticizing it much (and given the paid price, I'll probably be in denial about some of its faults for a while...) So, it is bigger, but not that much either. Same for the weight (without grip, but I think I'll add a base plate, my pinkie still lacks some proper resting space). For once, my first photo made with it is not of my feet, a plant, or bookshelves. I had to process it using their raw file converter which I really don't like. Waiting on LR and Iridient. But now that at least it has the camera film simulations in it, it is usable. I find the in camera settings are (as with previous models) slightly different, so my usual settings didn't yield the results I usually get. Though it was pretty cloudy and flat, not great for BW. https://www.flickr.com/photos/88144405@N00/39889345244/in/album-72157692338216721/ and the basic raw conversion https://www.flickr.com/photos/88144405@N00/25730004157/in/album-72157692338216721/ I also tried the panorama function (I some times use it prior to making a stitched panorama, so I have a good reference). Auto-stitching errors were few and discrete https://www.flickr.com/photos/88144405@N00/39705316735/in/album-72157692338216721/ Being alone, I took the opportunity to test the remote app. It worked fine, but it was a lot less smooth than with my other fuji cameras (maybe it was a problem with the phone). Less smooth is me in the grips of denial. It was super laggy. , I need to test more https://www.flickr.com/photos/88144405@N00/39705318155/in/album-72157692338216721/ I then took another photo through the window, because street lights were now on (and the tower's). I then noticed the shutter speed was dropping a lot, so I tested the IS with the 16-55. 1/12th sec https://www.flickr.com/photos/88144405@N00/38790468450/in/album-72157692338216721/ That made me ambitious and I tried the 90mm. 1/8thsec https://www.flickr.com/photos/88144405@N00/40600539881/in/album-72157692338216721/ That was the lowest speed I managed handheld. I need to work on the proper technique, it has been sometime I didn't tried this handheld. 1/8th and 1/12th sec photos seem more than acceptable to me. Not all were good of course, I'd say 3 out of 7. At 1/30th sec they were all good. Strangely enough between 1/15th and 1/20th sec I only got blurred photos. I was really surprised to have more sharp shots at a lower speed. It is possible that I was just in a better stance and less movements. I wonder if keeping it half pressed for a bit before shooting also helped a little (so the system can better compensate for movements ? I don't know, but 1/8th usable photo clearly IBIS also works fine). All in all, satisfied. Big user manual to read ahead of me, and a lot of video features to get familiar with. (I filmed a little bit, to my eyes it was marvelous, but keep in mind till then my reference were cell phone videos... so my amazement is of little use for others)

Fuji X-H1 – Your Opinion
Nastavnik replied to FX Admin's topic in Fuji X-H1 / Fuji X-H2s / Fuji X-H2
My favorite fuji is still the xpro 1 (and X100). I have the xpro2 as well but can't bring myself to selling the one. Keeping it for my daughter's birthday now... However, despite not being a true believer in in-lens image stabilization (couldn't afford them, bigger, needing to have several if I wanted stabilization throughout the range, etc), I count myself as a convert when it comes to IBIS. Indeed it does work. And that opens up a lot of possibilities for all my lenses. I just tested it with the 90mm, and took a shot at 1/8 sec, and it was good (to be fair I took a fair amount of them (8), and 3 were good or good enough - I got better towards the end). And I still need to relearn the proper technique, it has been a while since I tried that. Strangely enough, most "misses" were around 1/15 to 1/20sec, while at 1/30th it was all good, and good enough at 1/12th and 1/8th. -

ok, that's a bit embarrassing... (in the computer I was then , the preview of the post was fine, but apparently linking from box.com doesn't work) Trying again: First the BW: The color version And finally the other color version. This was just my reference photo for assembling the panorama (so I can compare the panorama to it and limit distorsions) of course I regret not being more in front of the tip of the island (like in HCB original photo, it is the ideal framing) but there were too many people at the "right" spot. The inconvenient of stitching these images and then looking for errors, duplications, etc, is that one tend to look so closely at it, that one may lose some perspective on other things and become a bit colorblind to the shifts in color etc. So if you feel the stone areas are a bit too blue/cool (in that last one, and too bright in the others), let me know. Thanks for looking

Hi all Joining your discussion here, after a long hiatus. Comments and critique are all welcome. I have no ego riding on this, I'm already very critical of my land/cityscapeimages. In this instance it is a bit different, for this is a (almost) direct rip off from Cartier Bresson photo, except his is better in all levels... It is a panorama I make regularly, with most of my cameras, every year or so. It has become a bit of a standardized test... The final image is rather big and I am thinking of printing it on 3 A3 (or even A2) sheets rather than making a long panorama print out (my printer doesn't do those...). Or assemble a " wall " by printing these on A4 sheets and then hanging only the "relevant" parts (don't know if this is very clear) --- I saw such a "patchwork" once and the result was interesting. It is a view from the Ile de la Cité, in Paris, from the Pont des Arts. Shots made with a XE1 converted to 665nm, and 35mm. (I have a much bigger one, in normal colors, shot with the 90mm, and around 400MP) 3 versions of the same scene. One BW and color version of the same panorama (2 rows, 20 images or so, with the 35mm and IR (665nm) converted XE1) And one photo of the same scene, with different colors. For now I prefer the BW and "orange" version I assembled. The pink seemed a bit too much, but there are instances where it works great. In the final edit, I removed the cranes on the left side of the panoramas. I am working on a series of such images. have made some from Nimes (and the roman aqueduct nearby) and Avignon already (south of France), but the lack of free time stalled the project. Trying to pick it up again now (thus re-starting with a view I know very well). First the BW: The color version And finally the other color version. This was just my reference photo for assembling the panorama (so I can compare the panorama to it and limit distorsions) of course I regret not being more in front of the tip of the island (like in HCB original photo, it is the ideal framing) but there were too many people at the "right" spot. I have been thinking about continuous lighting with leds as well. I don't know if the cheaper ones have enough power to be useful outdoors. When I need a higher speed sync, I use a X100s as suggested above. It does sync at any speed. With the tele lens adapter, one can even get nice portraits. On a side note, I use the TTL triggers by serene automation. On the XT1, they now allow for continuous shooting, though I have not tested them in a real life situation, just to check that it worked. They are expensive, but TTL, and will work with fuji and nikon flashes (as well as some others, but those are the ones I have). I had missed the sync speed update for the XT1. Just did it. Thanks George_P for the heads up.

Wireless TTL flash with Fuji X-T1
Nastavnik replied to rjmvandermeulen's topic in Flash Photography with Fuji X
As mentioned before, yes it is possible though it is an expensive solution. the serene automation triggers work TTL. And will even do so with a mix of flash brands (fuji, some nikons, some yongnuo). And it is nice to be able to use a smartphone to set the ratios (and then save it). I always used simple manual triggers before, but taking indoors photos of my kids with manual flash was too unreliable (my apartment is rather dark), since they would not stay put in the area I more or less calculated the exposure for. The TTL solved this problem for me. Works great with my xt1 and older Xpro1. And works wonders with the x100s, which could sync at 1/1000th and maybe more (but you start losing a lot of flash power). My only critique with these triggers if that , specially with my Xpro, there is a bit of wiggle room (?) for the trigger hotshoe, and if it is not perfectly aligned, then it will fire everything at full power. I never had a ttl trigger before, so I am satisfied -- my main criticism is mostly that I find TTL not that reliable, with lots of variation. I'd rather use manual flash for consistency (when in a controlled environment and most importantly, with a controllable subject...). It is also user error, since I need to know how to better understand ttl flash, best exposure settings, etc. I am also waiting for some options they planned (back then) to release, as sound triggers etc. (I need to learn to post pictures so I can show some of the results... But I don't think one can post an image directly from box.com) -

Hi everyone, There was a topic here about ttl triggers from roboshoot some months ago and was very curious about them : I always used manual settings for the flashes, but now, with two small infants that won't keep still, it is next to impossible to keep them in my kill zone (... I mean, correct light exposure zone ), and I had to break the bank to pay for some ttl triggers that would help resolve this issue. I received a set of those last friday, so I guess they are for real, and shipping now . I haven't had the time to test them fully, just the learning curve for someone who never used ttl flashes before. So far, I can synch at 1/250 with the Xpro / XT1. Have not tried the x100s yet. Tested with a nikon sb600 and a fuji ef42 and the transmitters do work It IS nice to be able to control all settings from the mobile phone. In france at least, VAT + taxes were about 25% of the total price. I'll test them in a more serious fashion during this week. If you have specific questions, I'll try to reply, time allowing (this is code for "if the kids are not on my back" --- literally). If any of you have an advice on a flash, please feel free (I'm hesitating between nissin i40 and youngnuo 568, i don't know if the price differential is justified, given that the more expensive has less power --- and after the price tag plus taxes, price of the next flash is definitely a subject of importance). By the way, I have a nissin Di866 (nikon mount) rarely used, that is not compatible with this system. If anyone has a compatible flash and would be interested in a trade (or just an interest in buying this one actually), feel free to contact me. Happy new year to everyone !
