Yes, that is how I used the old version. Just a few more steps before/after using it each time.

Thanks. Yes the old app did that too. I would turn it on when I used it on my android phone then turn it of when I was done. Wasn't that big of a deal for me.

I was just going to update the firmware on my XT-30 and install the updated Fuji-X app but based on the above, it may be better to wait? I did not even see a release about the updated app, it just showed ip in the google apps store. 
I definitely will use that windows fuji program to backup my settings whenever I do take the plunge. Haven't done that since initial setup!
Hope they do get this fixed and working.  I can usually get the old app to work after trying like 3 or 4 times.  This weekend it would not work at all which is what is making me want to get this working.

Thanks again. Makes sense. As far as monitor menu settings, I was just asking if any particular setting changed any of the above.  It appears not. 
I cut my teeth on occasional auto-ISO use with Nikon.  Saved me during quick change lighting scenes where I wanted a certain shutter speed, like a concert. Rarely use outdoors...
And I get of course that exposure comp will indeed change your exposure and image, even if preview has no real relationship unless starting with a good exposure.
