  1. From the album: The Bone Set

Two more from yesterday's shoot of some very old bones. This specimen is extra dark red - and begins to really shine with some water painted on it with a thick brush. Diffused daylight on an overcast day and handheld with the X100.

  2. I brushed the ironwood and bone with clear water before the shoot. No color correction, just Levels and a little saturation. Side-lit from one window, no filler light. Took a white-balance reading before I started the shoot... Wi.
  3. Tibia of extinct bison bone (Pleistocene Epoch) discovered in Kotzebue, Alaska. Approx. 20,000 years old. 800 ASA with the X100, handheld in afternoon daylight.

    X100 'Wet Plate' and Ganesha

Just playing around with some pictures from my last shoot of a kris sword-hilt carving of Ganesha - the 'wet plate' filter from a newly-downloaded Google Nik and my X100... Enjoy...
  5. Thank-you for the big compliment, Warren . We write down the dimensions of each object on our website - for example, this sword is: Weight: 565 gm Length: 65 cm Width: 10 cm Depth: 5 cm But yes, I agree with you: looking at it now with your eyes, it is difficult to understand size just by looking at the photographs. Some people put a coin next to an object, but we decide not to do that - I think that takes away from the object itself? We may be wrong... We will also re-photograph this kris when we write our blog article about them - we have about 20 still in the workshop, with four finished. This one is different because it's an original nickel-iron blade from the 1800s. Our others are contemporary Damascus-style blades made on next door Java island, with the handles carved from ebony wood and a bit of mammoth ivory... I will post later Thank-you for your feedback Warren - I will aim for the eyes the next time! Wi.
  6. Hi All, We just finished photographing our very rare antique-bladed Balinese kris with carving of the Hindu God Ganesha for handle... Any comments appreciated... Best, Wi.

    Flint knives with X100

A selection of flint- and chert-bladed knives with the X100... Enjoy.
  8. Our never-ending product shoot - 71 down, 280 to go. This time an antique 19th century comb carved from water buffalo horn from the island of Sumba in Indonesia. Shot first on a piece of wet ironwood for a bit of drama, and then in our usual teak bowl for a bit of contrast. Enjoy...
  9. Trying to squeeze the most out of my X100 during the meteorite product shoot. The items are small - between 4 and 7 cms - and shooting at a distance of 13 cms still doesn't give me enough detail. So a 30% crop. A bit of a hack, but they're always only going to be screen-only. Glad I've got 4288 pixels to play with
  10. Nice color, nice variation in angles, nice use of available light... nice!
  11. Any feedback much appreciated. Shot at f16 in strong afternoon sunlight.
