No, that is not at all what is going on. You can actually see the AF fail in the EVF already in most cases: it's just that far off. Over on the German forum, several people appear to have the same experience, mainly with one of the zooms. Anyway, apparently the new firmware does improve things according to several people. I did not have a change myself to do the test. I hope they fixed it though.

X-T2 "Turn camera off and on again"
voodooless replied to Snsokstan's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
Sure it will not happen with an adapter mounted.. they don't have any electrical contacts. What I mean is that a shitty adapter might damage the mount or contacts, leading to problems when you mount your Fuji lenses. This obviously is pure speculation... It might be something completely different. -
X-T2 "Turn camera off and on again"
voodooless replied to Snsokstan's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
Is it only one lens? In that case, I guess you'll have to send the lens in for a checkup. I had this on the X-E2 and a brand new 16-55, just at random times (really annoying on vacation) . Turned out to be a lens problem. If you have this with multiple lenses, it might be a mount problem.. and not to scare you, but if both camera's do have the exact same problem, then that mount problem could be the result of a mechanical problem with one of the lenses that broke something? Did you use a (questionable) lens adapter at some point? -
Obviously.. I'm pretty sure that that is not what is happening here though.
-
Last couple of days again problems with the 16-55. I had it fail focus completely a few times. Today on such an occasion I tried the MF wheel, and after that focus worked again. I guess I'll try disabling AF+MF for now and see if it helps.
-
Yes, AF+MF is enabled, but I'm sure that in the instances that I had problems, I did not touch the MF.
-
Can you post some images so we can see what you mean? If it it really that bad, just give it back or let it be serviced.

One more setting to check: is shutter AE set to "off" by any chance? I think it will then do exposure only if you press the shutter fully, meaning it will never give you a proper preview. What I noticed is that there can be a significant difference in exposure when Shutter AE is on and you half press the shutter compared to the preview without pressing the shutter. Earlier I also commented about the DR. On Saturday I now noticed the exact opposite behaviour: Increasing the DR level decreased the overal exposure.. Something really strange is going on here.
-
Had it again yesterday with the 16-55, fully zommed in. Only a few times though. If it is a problem with lens speed the 16-55 should not be affected, since it is one of the fastest lenses. And I don't think it is because refocusing should then fix the issue. And in most cases if it's bad once it will remain bad.
-
Regarding the DR setting, today I noticed something strange as well. I had an outside scene with backlight and a fair amount of contrast, used center weights metering, and then played with various DR settings. Here I noticed that DR200 and DR400 were clearly a bit overexposed compared to DR100 in the EVF. I would have thought that the exposure should not change no matter what DR settings?
-
Nope, at least in my case it is/was definitely no camera shake. Focus was clearly off, even visible in the EVF before taking any photo.

I just did some more test with the 16-55 using various focal lengths and apertures and subject distances, but could not repoduce the results I had last week. What the difference is.. I don't know. I have seen a few complete AF fails, which are in itelf strange since the focus field was on a high contrast area. I also cannot say that I have as many unsharp images with the 16-55 as Daniel describes with his 18-55. So it is not that much of a bother (specially since I cannot reproduce it anymore). A few more things to try: - pre-AF on or off (I have it off) - Boost mode (I have it on) - DR modes (I tried auto and DR200) - shutter AE/AF on or off (tried shutter AF off, but set it back now -> no difference) - AF Illuminator (don't think that does much, but who knows.. set it to off now) - do you have face detection set to auto? That should impact AF performance negatively (in fact, any mode other than off should). - check that shutter priority on AF-S is set to focus
-
Do you have DR set to auto? In that case, the live view will always a how you DR100 while the image could be taken with DR200. If you manually set DR then the preview should reflect that setting.

Well, the german topic is actually very helpfull! Especially this post show exactly what I see In my topic. I think this is a firmware issue and definitely not user or hardware related. Manual focus works flawlessly, so hardware in the lens is just fine. And user related? What user option would make the camera lie about having focus? That makes no sense at all.
-
This does not look like motion blur. Are you using AFS of AFC, what mode? What is the shutter priority set to? Is it also visible in the EVF/LCD? Try zooming in to the focus area using the rear command dial press. Does this look familiar: http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/topic/4285-camera-lies-about-focus/ ?

I was out today and notices some behaviour with the 16-55 f2.8. At 55mm f2.8 sometimes when you focus from near to far, or the other way around, the camera will beep and show a green focus area, but the image is clearly not in focus. When it is in that mode, it keeps missing focus at subsequent tries, rarely getting focus. A power cycle fixes this problem. I haven't found out what triggers this, but I've had it happen to me several times today.. One thing that I might suspect is the AF+MF feature. it might be that after using MF, that is misbehaves, but I cannot confirm that. In any case, it really is annoying. I'm on focus priority, Single shot, AFS, single focus point (but have seen it with area mode as well).

EVF not showing exp comp result.. bug or feature?
voodooless replied to voodooless's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
The thing is, it does not always do that, and if it does, the image is always overexposed compared to preview. And then there is the thing where the exp. comp. does nothing for the preview (it does show then half pressed). Still can't except that this is somehow not a user (my ) error.. Otherwise many more people must notice this I would think. -

Could the auto brightness setting have something to to with what I'm seeing? I disabled it for now (set brightness to -1 as per advice on multiple sites). Have not seen any issues yet. -

voodooless replied to voodooless's topic in Fuji X-T2 / Fuji X-T20
But that is only for manual mode right? I did not have it in manual mode, Aperture priority with Auto ISO. -
I'm not sure if I found a bug, or if I missed a setting here.. What I found is that sometimes, the exposure compensation setting is not visible in the EVF (have not checked the LCD). Only when I half press the shutter, will the correct exposure be shown. Strangely this it not always the case. Yesterday It was first stuck the way I described, and after a off-on cycle, it was normal again. I even occurs when exp comp is at zero. The exposure then significantly changes when I half press the shutter (It mostly gets muchbrighter). I'm in AFS mode, tried various metering modes, preview picture effect is also. I'm not using any exposure locking (remapped the buttons), at least, not that I'm aware of. oh, and DR is set to a fixed setting, not auto DR. I guess I'm dooing something wrong here.. This is at least not something I've seen before with the X-E2.

Any more low light tests? I've been to a zoo and it worked fine basically, but light was good.
-
Hmm, I'm still not sure. Last week tried to make some close focus images indoors with quite a lot of light (5000 lumens of LED and some daylight), but focus was still slow and tricky, even with AFC. In comparison the 16-55 is a speed daemon . The XF90 feels more like the XF35f1.4. Judging by reviews, I think it should be way faster than that. But since I can't compare with another one, who knows.. Images are very sharp though
-
So, I went out yesterday to get some shots of the 3rd Giro stage and found some things out. So it looks like, the AF problem only occurs in AFC mode. If you focus close-up, and then focus far away, it is quite slow compared to AFS, and its also very unreliable. And that is even when using the middle points. After reading some more, I guess that MS+ES mode also has some influence on this. I'll try again in MS only mode next time.

I don't know.. I don't make a photo of something if it's not in focus
