Yes, it’s far better to use a card reader. I have. USB3 reader with SD & Micro SD slots which is double-ended – USB A at one end, USB-C at the other. I use the latter for my MacBook. But I also use both Photos (family stuff) and Capture One for importing the photos. Chris1 point
