X-A3 Mode Dial Issues

Hi! I'm new to the work of Fujifilm, please please bear with me. I bought a used X-A3 for an every day carry. I've been learning the functionality through the manual and Youtube where I can. I've been trying to shoot in Manual (M) mode but when I put it in this mode the camera displays 'P'. If I have custom settings saved it will shoot in the custom settings. The same happens when I try to shoot in Shutter Priority (S). The Aperture (A) mode works fine and so does the Program AE (P) mode.

Any thoughts out there as to the reason for this. "User error" is an acceptable answer.
