What TTL flash for Fuji system that works off camera should I buy?

Guys, I really need your help once more.

I need to buy a TTL flash to use off camera (I own an X-T10). Does somebody recommend the "Nissin i40" with "Vello-Off Camera Cord for Canon"? Will this work? Or is it better to buy the "Canon OC-E3 Off Camera Shoe Cord"?

I am also considering other flashes, like Metz or Bolt. I don't want to spend much money (I will use the flash for family pictures only).

What TTL flash for fuji system that works off camera do you recommend?

Thank you for your attention!

The Canon or Nikon off camera cords should work fine. The pin that triggers the flash is the same on all of them. The flash will only work in manual mode. The i40 will work great TTL on the camera. If you are going to be strictly off camera, you might consider Yongnuo. Wireless trigger and flash are less than the i40. This article has a review: http://improvephotography.com/34962/best-flash-for-fuji/

After reading the article, I bought the combo, and it's great. Both for about $130 from Amazon.

The only off body TTL system I know for Fuji is RoboSHOOT.

We had one of the company's owner on the forum a while ago and from what I could gather, it seems to be working as advertised but it is a rather steep price. At least for me, I can live with off body flash with manual settings.

Youngnuo has very good wireless triggers for that and I can use either the Nissin i40 or my old SB600 flash.

Now, there was some talks about the next Nission i60 that could be radio controlled but you would need at least 2 of them or something.

I expect it won't take long before the Radio-Controlled Nissin i60A with the Nissin Air 1 Commander for Fuji gets released. With this you'll get full TTL control over max 3 remotely controlled flash units.

Godox seems also working at a Fuji implementation of their AD360-II with the X1F TTL transmitter.

I have no actual release dates for both products, maybe both products get released at then Photokina. Both look promising to me so let's wait and see.

Neither Cactus nor the Nissin i40 have wireless TTL capabilities, at least the Fuji versions (they have wireless TTL for other systems). Metz doesn't have it neither. Nissin's Air Commander is going to support Fuji soon, but you will be forced to get the oversized i60 or Di700. Or wait until Nissin decides to sell the Air Receiver for Fuji and then you will be able to attach the i40. At least the Guy at Photokina told me that a lot of Fuji-users requested that option and that he will forward that request fo Nissin.

Of course, you can buy the totally oversized Fuji EF-X500. That flash is almost bigger than the X-T1/2 itself! My Nissin i40 is powerfull enough for all kind of situations.

I use x3 Cactus RF-60's & x1 Cactus V6 transceiver. No, they don't do TTL but I've never relied on that.

These fire much more reliably than my Canon 580 speedlites did using Pock Wizards.

They're pretty much all manual which, to me, isn't a bad thing. I like have that control.

    • The Tentacle Sync Timecode tool is the one I tried. I couldn't get it to work. But that is probably my fault, not the software. I seemed to get a file, but I couldn't turn it into anything meaningful.
    • I am glad to read you are able to get this up and running. Pretty much as long as you connect the camera and turn it on and wait a few moments for the computer to register the connection, you can then use Image Capture (which actually is a very decent program with a lot of options for transferring images from cameras to the computer) or Lightroom or other programs to move the images to your library. There are some drawbacks; connecting to the computer while it is in sleep mode will waste your time, the connection will not get recognized— you will have to unplug the camera, wake the computer and start over. Trying to connect while the screen saver is running may work, it may not, often not. If the computer goes into screen saver mode while the camera is connected and sitting idle, it usually stays connected when coming back out of screen saver, but if the computer mputer goes into sleep mode, the connection gets dropped and you have to unplug it and start over. I suggested having the camera turned off while connecting, this is to lower the possibility of static electricity discharges frying either the camera or the computer or both. A lot of times you can connect while the camera is turned on, but not always, sometimes you have to unplug, turn it off, reconnect and turn it back on. A lot of this comes from Apple’s approaches towards keeping USB devices from hijacking your computer, some is just hubris and some is from the vagaries of chance. p.s. Your laptop should be able to connect to the camera.
    • Hi Chas, I am just fallen into the rabbit hole of investigating how to upgrade my X-T4's video sound... Loving the idea of time code sync, I am now quite concerned that the X-T4 doesn't support it, although I have already seen different statements on the net, like here:  https://youtu.be/xja27RmvbhE?si=hIch3Tu_MH_pWSBH&t=571 I have to admit, this guy's "explanation" gets quite confusing in his further discourse ...:) BUT, as you wrote that you use Tentacle Sync for Windows!, did you also try with their windows-only software "Time Code Tool" which you find here?: https://tentaclesync.com/timecode-tool   Would love to here if you found a workaround with the XT4 Best, Simon
    • It occurred sometime when I focus. It is not silent
    • This is the video for the focusing sound. Anyone can help?🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻thanks a lot IMG_3226.mov
