About Me

I have been a news photographer for over forty years.

From 1975 until 1997 my images appeared regularly in many of the world's leading newspapers.  I then completely abandoned photography for many years.  I purchased my first digital camera in 2012 after a fourteen year break, and took up street photography as a hobby.

I exhibit regularly, and in May 2014 I was honoured with a long-term, mono-author exhibition of 50 images, 200 metres from the Duomo in Milan, Italy.  The exhibition finally closed in September 2015, after 17 months, and saw over one million visitors.  Milan was followed by another exhibition in Italy, in Liguria, which saw many thousands of visitors during the six weeks it was open.  The Liguria exhibition will be an annual event.

For Street Photography I mainly used to use a Fuji X100s.  Now I am using a Canon 6D with a 35mm lens.  I have a viewfinder for taking photographs, and an LCD for the menu, just like it used to be with Fuji.

All my street photography images are printed as they come out of the camera, with overall contrast adjustment, where necessary, made with Silver Efex 2.  I do not do any "post processing" except for overall contrast.

Sadly, I gave up on Fuji in February 2016 when I discovered that the Fuji X100T, the X-Pro2, the latest firmware for the X-T1 and all future Fuji cameras no longer support OVF for taking the photo and LCD for menu by default.  The change has made my style of photography untenable, so I have gone back to Canon, and have sold my Fuji equipment.  It was good for 6 years, and the X100 encouraged me to try street photography, but Fuji have suddenly changed something that worked very well, and although that may be ok for many, it's not ok for me.
