  1. I have this lens and find that at f11 at full extension and a distance of about 20m there is very little depth of field. Frustrating when there is a bird and some branches. I called up a depth of field calculator and there is about 60 cm dof. I need to be more careful in my focus settings.
  2. The flip screen on the XT5 will be good for street photography. It is nice to be able to take photos from a lower perspective, not just at eye level. I have used an XE2 for street photography for several years and the advantage of the “rangefinder” style is that some people will ask if it is a Leica! The additional resolution of the XT5 will give you more flexibility if you choose to crop an image.
  3. Thanks for the advice. I took the plunge and went for the X-T3. Very happy with the camera. I have the 18-55 that I got with my XE-2 almost 6 years ago (hard to think) as well as 35, 18 and 55-200. I do want to get a wider angle lens and the 10-24 sounds like a 2020 purchase. For now I have to learn to deal with the fact the Photoshop CS6 can't process my RAW files without my adding a step to my workflow.

  5. I am torn between the XT-3 and the XT-30. I currently use an XE-2 and a pair of Nikon full frame cameras. The Fuji will be my hiking, snowshoeing and travel camera. I have watched far too many videos and read a lot of reviews and comparisons. Unfortunately none of the local shops have either camera in stock. So a special order will be necessary. One comment that I keep seeing is that the XT-30 is good for people with smaller hands. People with larger hands complain about pressing the Q button unintentionally, not having a place for all their fingers etc. That said, I have had no complaints about the XE-2, but I always use the accessory grip. I would definitely get a grip for an XT-30. In perspective, I wear a size 11 (EU) glove (XL I think in the US). Thanks
  6. Work and other things can get in the way, and frankly I became complacent about my X series camera. I have used an XE-2 since 2013. My other system is Nikon D8*0 and D700. In fact I found out about how good the Fuji XE-1 was through a Nikon user forum! I loved the XE from the start. I started photography before there was auto-exposure and certainly before auto focus. So a camera with dials and an aperture ring was like coming home. I tried out the X-Pro1 before deciding on the XE-2. I think that what sold me was that the EVF was the way to go. Being able to see the exposure in the EVF meant that I could avoid under or over exposure. I have taken some really pleasing photos with this camera. I have also loaned it to friends. Something I would not do with my Nikon. The first time it was to a wedding photographer friend who had been injured by a crazy cyclist who overtook a bus at a crosswalk. My friend had a broken shoulder and could not hold his Canon gear. Instead he used my XE-2 with an 18-55, and a 35mm lens. The camera came back with a few thousand additional shutter actuations and a case of wine. It had saved his season. The great optics seemed to have made up for the loss of a few pixels in comparison to a full frame Canon. The intuitive interface (for an old bloke) meant that the learning curve was almost non-existent. I am back because I miss my enthusiasm and because another friend just bought an X-Pro 2 as a big brother to his XE-2. Got me thinking is it time? XT-30 or X-H1? Hmm.
  7. I am struggling with a similar decision. I will keep my Nikon D800 - too much invested in lenses. But I am looking to upgrade my small camera. I have used an XE-2 for almost 6 years and I like it. I rarely have an excuse for leaving it behind and the battery life is good. Downside is the resolution. Any model that I buy will be better. Video is not critical to my needs. I never liked the video that I shot with any camera - without a gimbal it was always shaky, so I stayed with stills.
