craigk49 got a reaction from hooli in Tethered Shooting
Fuji still has a chance to save face in the "Tethered Shooting Plugin Debacle." At least for us in the West, by releasing a clear and concise statement regarding the plug in. First, tell us when it will be available. Second, tell us the price. We already know where it will be available assuming the information regarding availability on Adobe Exchange is correct.
Since this is a Hot Topic Button for some X-T1 owners and some considering purchasing an X-T1, It would behoove Fuji and their national distributors to train their customer service people to accurately answer questions about the plugin.
While this is an important issue for the folks who read and post to this forum, I don't think Fuji perceives this to be a pressing issue since only a tiny percentage of their camera market has the slightest interest in tethered shooting. Keeping this in mind will help us who want the plugin to better understand why Fuji hasn't put a lot of energy and resources to work on this issue. As much as I would like to be shooting tethered right now, not having the plugin is not the end of the world. I can use the iPhone/iPad app for a somewhat imperfect simulation of tethered shooting. I'm trying to look at this from Fuji's perspective.
On the other hand, it does feel bad that a Pro feature has been handled so poorly from our perspective. In my opinion, Fuji could and will attract a much larger Pro audience with tethered shooting. I just hope that the debacle doesn't turn people away who may assume this is SOP for Fuji.

craigk49 reacted to darknj in DOWNLOAD NOW X-T1 Firmware 4.0 ! Share your first impression
I have access to both a D3S with mostly primes lenses (35mm F1.8 and 50mm F1.8 among others) and a D800 with 24-70mm F2.8 and while the X-T1 with new upgrade is certainly good, it still can't compete against those 2 old monsters DSLR, specially the D800 with 24-70mm, that body lens combo is just insanly fast, you hardly need to do any half press for the focus to lock on.
Now, the closest competitor I have in house is my lil' Nikon1 AW1 with almost all lenses aside the 10-100mm and 70-300mm.
In good light condition, the AW1 is really close of the D3S in term of focusing speed, we have to leave it to Nikon, they are awesomely good on the AF for their bodies.
So how does it match up ? Well, my AW1 with the 18.5mm F1.8 (50mm eq.) against my 35mm F1.4 on X-T1, the AW1 wins up with a good margin in good light condition, the update did good on the body but the lens could really use some update(s ?), but as soon as we start hitting the low light and the ISO shoots up, the X-T1 is catching up really good, around 3200 ISO the AW1 pretty much lost the battle, it can still grab a lock but with a bit more hunting and IQ goes down the drain.
In overall, the 35mm F1.4 is a really pretty lens, but it does shows its age, I could be tempted by the 35mm F2 WR that is going to be released end of this year but I love the bokeh and "spirit" of this 35mm too much to just replace it because it's not as fast other 50mm equivalent.
While I do not own a Sony A6000, I guess that depending on the lens, the X-T1 could be up to par with it, give or take 10-15% for error margin.
Don't use the AF-C on static subjects, the AF-C is expecting to have a moving subject, if everything is static, it tries to compensate for something that doesn't move.

Hi, I've been playing with the beta firmware on my X-T1 together with my XF50-140mm at my daughter's soccer tournament this weekend. I also stumbled into a local MTB race when I was picking up my second daughter at a band camp yesterday and got to shoot some of the racers. I'm very impressed with this upgrade. AF-C and Zone focus are working great! If anybody are interrested, I have written about my findings in this blogpost: http://www.fujiboys.com/blog/2015/6/20/x-t1-firmware-40-afc-zone-wow

craigk49 reacted to nar53 in OK I've gone & done it
I was trying to hold out until the new firmware had been out for a few weeks, but I've gone & done it. I pulled the trigger on a secondhand mint X-T1. I hope I don't regret it!

craigk49 reacted to Trenton Talbot in XT-1 sensor and dust
In AZ I would mostly worry about mica dust. Mica particles are flat; some of them are perfectly flat, allowing for a scarily good bond with the surface of camera sensor (somewhat similar to diffusion welding). If I were living in AZ, I'd add a Lenspen SensorKlear to my camera cleaning kit – its quite good at picking up the mica dust.
Theoretically, in a high dust / low humidity environment you gonna need a good electrical grounding and a decent air circulation. Long term storage in an airtight container still seems to be a bad idea: various chemicals in camera and lens bodies evaporate, and an airtight enclosure might be rather destructive for all sorts of "nano coated" surfaces. I think a HEPA filter mounted as a lid on some metal or plastic box should do the trick.
If you're around the smokers a lot, throw a gas mask cartridge in one of your camera bag's compartments – it will absorb a lot of gunk from the air. It should be a cartridge with activated carbon; don't forget to remove both caps… (back in the 90s I used to work in places where it was hard to see past 3-5ft because of the smoke)

Good one, except for the part that I quoted. I'd advise against storing your gear in airtight containers (unless you live in a rainforest). Just use your regular camera bag, but throw in a decent pack of silica gel to keep things dry.
Oh, and don't use q-tips, unless you want to deal with lint too. Good ole Pec Pads do the trick so much better!…
