  1. I didn't know about the mockups. Where do they publish them ? Do they put them online or do they publish these mockups in some other medium ?

They're typically presented at photo shows. The usual system appears to be Announce Lens on Roadmap -> Present prototype at a show -----(6-12 painful months of waiting)----> Announce Release Date -->

The last example i'm aware of is with the 35mm f2 where a mock-up was presented at CP+ in Feb 2015 - the lens was eventually released in October 2015.

I think the same has been done with the 16, 90 and some of the telephoto zooms.

  2. Correct me if i'm wrong but don't Fuji usually present mock-ups of new lenses quite some time before the production model has been finalised?

Given we haven't seen anything for the 23mm F2, I'm concerned that this lens might still be further away than we would hope...

Could we only just get a mock-up in June?! :(

  3. Adding an EVF as an accessory to the camera will have its retro charm

but what would be the point if you can buy a X-100t with the EVF and the OVF already? Adding an accessory will probably make the camera more expensive than the one with both EVF and OVF.

Well i think an OVF only accessory would make more sense - that way you can bring something new to the EVF or LCD-only range of x-cameras. But i see your point that in introducing an accessory like this you start to blur the line between different cameras and what features they offer. I guess your example also applies to adding an OVF to the X-E2 (why not just get an X-Pro).

Options are a good thing though, i personally like the ability to add accessories depending on what, where and when i shoot - for example adding the hand-grip to my x-e2 when using larger lenses or loosing it once a smaller prime is attached for a lighter more discreet package.

  4. there is a market for any camera, I guess.

However having a camera like this with no EVF but just the LCD positions it into a very small niche , methinks.

A Fuji hot-shoe optical viewfinder would be a nice solution to that - just as Ricoh offer for the GR. Would probably cost a fair bit, but i'd probably be tempted!

  5. It would be very interesting if Fuji came out with a faster (maybe slightly larger) 23mm lens on the new X100 (f1.7/1.8). The popularity of the Leica Q suggests slightly larger fixed lens cameras aren't a turn off for most. Let the X70 be the pocketable, discreet 23mm for the street.

I think a new faster lens would give some weight to the X70 rumour and possibly indicate that the X100 line could split into two!

This gives us a pro and enthusiast choice for SLR style body (X-T1 and X-10), rangefinder style (X-Pro2 and X-E2) and fixed lens rangefinder (X100x and X70)...
