About Me

Born in 1961 in Geisson, Germany Jacqueline Agentis is an award-winning international photographer based in Pennsylvania. Jacqueline studied fine art at Kutztown University, obtaining a BFA with a concentration in photography.

Her initial interest in photography came from her Mother, who was an enthusiast all her life, and even sold cameras in a shop in Germany many years ago; which incidentally is how she met Jacqueline’s father, an American GI with a gift for painting. "As a child I often wondered, as I and my siblings fidgeted impatiently, why my mother always took so long to ‘take her photo’. My question was answered years later when she gave me my first camera. Looking back, those few extra seconds made all the difference; the difference between a ‘nice snap' and a ‘legacy photograph’ we still show and talk about today”.

Drawing was always her first love and she drew incessantly from 5 years old. Jacqueline actually intended drawing to be her course of study. Then in 1979 she was introduced to the gorgeous light and exquisite detail of Ansel Adam’s black and white photographs; achieving with photography what she was trying to do with drawing. Furthering her study, she fell in love with the Street Photography of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Walker Evans, Dorothea Lange. Finding the extraordinary in ordinary every day life is what she loves from these masters and why, as with the pen in her early years, she cannot put down her camera.

In the past few years she as been incorporating architectural elements into her street photography giving them a graphic quality. Color and texture are also important elements as she strives to capture not only what is happening with the people in the image, but also the character and personality of the space around them. The element of time is also a part of her recent focus, trying to capture time in a single frame.

She has exhibited in the Marlin and Regina Miller Gallery (Kutztown, PA). Payne Gallery (Bethlehem, PA), Solo Exhibition at the Technicolor Grand (Bethlehem, PA). Bethlehem Fine Arts Juried Exhibition at the Technicolor Grand, and solo exhibit at the Twisted Olive, Bethlehem PA. Her work has appeared in local, national and international publications including the NY Times.
