  1. Hi,

Used to own a x100s in 2013 but sold it and got back to DSLRs again and now I'm looking to go back again to Fujifilm

Recently sold all my canon gear and am now waiting for the X-T2, but the X-PRO 2 is available basically now and looks very attractive so I'm a bit torn.

Here's what I care about and not care about

    I care about

*Tilt screen. The X-T series has it. I really enjoyed it on my Canon 70D that I recently sold. Great for landscapes or weird angles.

*A good EVF. Both have it. the X-T1 has a bigger one but the X-PRO 2 has a "faster one" with higher refresh rate.

*Ergonomics. I felt both on the X-T1 and the X-PRO 1 and the first impression was that the X-T1 feels more comfortable because of the bigger grip.

*Discretion. I always bring my camera with me on travels and enjoy doing a bit of street photography, and therefor it's important to me that the camera isn't bringing a lot of attention. Both cameras are pretty small but my impression is that the X-PRO 2 with it's rangerfinder style body is more discrete than the DSLR style of the X-T series.

    I don't care about

*4K video which I recently learned the X-T2 will have. Don't care about video much at all to be honest.

*OVF. When I had my X100s I only used the EVF. This is one of the biggest differences between the X-T series and the X-Pro series. I guess it makes no sense getting the XPRO 2 if you don't care about OVF?

Or maybe I should care about the OVF? Please enlighten me :)

*ISO dial (I usually put my cam on AUTO ISO anyway (mininum shutter 1/125 or 1/60 depening on the lens and situation).

Does it make more sense to wait for the X-T2 in my case?

And you need help with your decision......why?

Based on your criteria the only reason for you to get an X-P2 is impatience. Not a good reason to drop $1700 IMO. :-)

  2. "if the camera feels right a decent snapper will make great pics , I really do believe that"

I agree completely, and no you're not mad...of course that's just one man's opinion.

Years ago I felt that way about my Nikon F2. It just felt so right, and the sound of that shutter was something magical. It made me want to shoot.

Then along came all these digital SLRs. Nikons again, D70s, D200, mechanical devises to be used but not to inspire.

During this period I longed for a camera that gave me that feeling I was missing and found it when I went back to film in the form of a Leica M6.

I loved, loved, loved that camera. This tiny brick, built like the proverbial tank, it made me want to shoot and I made some great images with it. And I discovered I really liked rangefinders.

Enter Fuji. When I bought my X100 I was hoping it would be my digital Leica. And indeed I must say I enjoyed using it much more than any other digital camera I ever had. I even upgraded to the S as soon as it arrived. But it did it have soul? Not for me, though it is one of my all time favorites.

For these past few years I always looked at the X Pro 1 but never could pull the trigger...until recently. Thanks to the X Pro 2 the lowered price of the 1 made it impossible to ignore any longer. I haven't had enough time with the XP1 to say if it will rank up there with those other cameras I mentioned, but it certainly looks promising.

So no, you're not mad...at least no more than the rest of us I'd assume.

  3. I am like many here.  I fell in love with the Fuji mirrorless system when I got the X100S.  I then got an X100T and have been using it as my only camera for some time (except for water sports photography which I use the Nikon AW130).

I am just an amateur photographer.  I don't take great pictures but I enjoy it.

I can't adequately express how much more I enjoyed photography once I got the X100's.

But, after the announcement of the XPro2, I became obsessed.  Probably not a good thing, you should be happy with what you have.

But due to price and availability, it really isn't a good idea for me.

But B&H is selling the XPro1 for 499!!!!

I guess I don't need a whole lot of convincing, especially after reading this thread.

I think I will go for it.

One problem is that now I need a lens!!

I love the wide angle lens on the X100T, so Im thinking of sticking to that sort of focal length.

The 35mm sounds nice but I never really liked the 35mm film equivalent 50mm, so thats not right for me.

What is a good, reasonably priced wide angle for the XPro1?

I have a X100S. I was thinking about upgrading to the T. Nothing wrong with the S I love it. But the T seems to to have been....refined. And since I love my X100S so much that's why I wanted to upgrade. Then the XP2 came on the scene and the XP1 is now available NEW for $499. I felt it was too good to pass up. So I ordered one from B&H and a used, condition 10, 35mm F1.4 to go with it. Love it. However I already knew I wanted another lens, and in my Nikon 35mm film days the focal length I used the most was the 21mm wide angle. I absolutely loved that lens. That translates to the FujiX 14mm. A little pricey, but Henery's up in Canada has them on sale. The sale price along with the favorable currency exchange rate allowed me to get that lens for $527ish USD. (Compared to $899 from B&H). The lens is arriving today. So that's what I did, your mileage may vary. That focal length is great for landscape photoagraphy but also gives very interesting perspectives on close-up subjects. It is just a lot of fun to shoot with and I can't wait to do just that. It's been years since my Nikon.
