My XPRO 2 is partner to the 18mm for work inside, outside there is often a 100 to 400 leading- outside walkabout I often take the XE2s with 18-55 as I like the auto scene function and flexaility- however if something is to fit in the pocket around town my XA1 & 27mm fit into a ( large ) suit pocket
Cameras for every occasion!!!!!!!

I purchased the XE2s and it is a great camera.
However I did not own a previous XE camera
I do not think the XT2s is meant to appeal to XT2 owners
Or even XPRO2 owners
It will be there for people who do not own these cameras and at the time of purchase require the latest modern gear
they will compare and contrast to other camera manufacturers
put yourself in the position of the camera salesman trying to flog off an old model

Good evening,
Well I fly to Uganda via Dubai and would not be happy putting an XPRO2 & 100 - 400 lens in hold luggage
If the camera flashes up and works it has no space to put the ingredients required for an explosive device in,
noting you cannot take a device on board without batteries as it must flash up on test
and having worked with security before I know these measures propagate, the simple philosopher rightly
figures out that if his security is not at the top end of industry practice he is screwed if it goes wrong
It will propagate to other flights on the just in case principle until internal flights are affected
We have trains that carry +500 PAX without the fuss and I an sure other nations multiply that number
An example is security took of me a jar of crystallized solid honey claiming it was a threat whilst clearly not a liquid
and you cannot question them or you will be "offloaded" &they just give a knowing look when they know it is bs
Watch the space, airlines will require the equipment to be specially packed in flight cases, and an additional charge - noses will be in the trough

I refer to regulations that limit the size of any electronic gear to the size of a smart phone from certain countries ( 6 ) so far

What is the forum view or experience on :
The introduced regs, that cameras should be in the hold from a limited number of countries & cannot be carried in the cabin
This will expand to all voyages ( prediction )
- Is the Camera stout enough
- What is the insurance position
- what special packing is required # remember the box it came in
- if we use original packaging as guideline you will have little room for anything else
- who kept all them boxes
I have seen how suitcases are treated!
I have never seen security regulations relaxed even if they make no further sense
You can see through a lens

In the present stable we have the XS-1, the XA1, XT10, XE 2s & the recently acquired XPRO2 & various lens
We disposed of the XPRO1 when we acquired the XPRO2

The XPRO2 is a brilliant joy to use and we find use for all the cameras on different occasions
The capability and ease of use is stunning, in OVF when I want to check the settings on a bright day I slip a finger in front of the viewfinder! The OVF makes it the perfect trip camera
The EVF earns its living with the long zooms and macro
GAS purchased the pre-owned XPRO 2 = it would not have been purchased at RRP in our budget
It will take years to master its complete capability rather than the functionality in one or two disciplines
I would not survive the morning of a Safari if the camera was recharged by USB
Require change of batteries through out the day
The daft thing is it is the XS1 that cannot be replaced in the FUJI brand
What is concerning is the security issues that are coming up and I really do not want my kit packed into the hold

Another book entitled STUFF which I have explains this in detail and tells a lot
Whilst SAFARI is my Genre I do what I am told when in rainy England
The boss (better half) wanted group photos and couples taken and then be on facebook & flickr within the two hours
No time is allowed to set up and you have to be ready & fast as you are eating into other time constraints
Business has to strike fast and speed is a factor over studio and portrait work taking weeks to report
The participants were looking with approval at the posts in the Pub after the event
An XPRO2 and 18 - 55 lens never faulted taking the photos with venue lighting perfectly focusing
Couples walked to place - smiled - camera clicked
The RAW files were cropped with the supplied converter & uploaded
I could never justify further expenditure on the system
There has to be a tipping point as you and others advise that the photographer learns effective use
of excellent equipment

I tend to agree, I liken it how we chose a car forty years ago, it was a major decision and everything
concerned you, maintenance - tyres - potential to rust etc.
today you walk into a show room and have a wonderful machine that will be old fashioned before being worn out
the power of the cars also staggers me for the size of engine and the actual requirement to move the car
Cameras have reached that hurdle and the manufacturers have excelled in their competition and must somehow
keep us on the treadmill

Ah - the ladies did the punch carding cos they were better at it and had a fewer error rate - FORTRAM is a thing consigned to history - so you had to carry the cards to the ladies!! Bet you got a think ear when you dropped the box cos I bet it only happened once!
Where I was you did not have general purpose computers - every computer had its own job and was programmed that way not like today!
ie one did stability - another did navigation - yet another calculated cargo - whilst the radar computer was the only one that had its own sensor

Having owned a fair few Fuji Cameras!
Scenes and Panoramic Stitching together
Really puzzled why I can tell some of my cameras to do something - like take a sunset or a panorama
XS1 XA1 XE2s
and the camputer on the XPRO1 and XPRO2 can not be told to sort the scene out themselves!
I would have presumed the camputer was more than capable!
Some paid pay a premium for these cameras and should expect the camputer to be up to the job!

There is no bad X Series cameras
Indeed with the firmware updates they remain capable of excellent work

I have 100% agreement with you views
Too much attention is paid to some number on a spec
Lately I have been preparing Discussion Topics & researching topics & proving them on camera
It is quite clear that unless you are preparing for a museum piece there is too much bunk is is the air
I strongly advocate that prints are used as proof - I am sure that on most occasions little difference will be perceived
between the cameras - especially when viewed at normal viewing distances
people are zooming on a computer to compare forgetting that it is the display that is important
The difference is in the glass & application - not minor differences due etc. etc.
Canon, Nikon, Sony etc. all produce great cameras - I use Fuji & Panasonic cos for
My only remark is when you are pushing the technology - getting a little closer
the 100 - 400 lens was a clear step forward over the 50 - 230
The X Pro 2 over the X Pro 1
For most purposes the Xpro1 was a great camera - because later cameras were released
it did not detract from the Xpro1 qualities as a great camera

The challenge is whether you have significant difference from the camera jpeg engine to sitting in front of the computer for the purpose you are creating the photo for ( my biggest print was a 20 in x 15 in Zebra from Uganda taken with the XS1 ) and that possessed sufficient data so I have real confidence in the X Series Cameras
One that I have yet to solve is that in wildlife ( Bird mainly) photography for whatever reason you might end up with quite severe cropping,
Presently I normally use the raw file for this thinking ( but not understanding whether its true ) that as there is more info you end up with a cleaner crop

- Whilst the camera has the cool ability to send RAW to one card and JPEG to another my work mainly requires almost instant display hence I rate the quality JPEG production & film simulations
- Thank you for clarifying the histogram effect as well
- looking at my previous post to clarify the black and white wildlife requires reduced contrast to try to maintain detail
- always thought that the scene preset settings on the XS1 & XE2s were valuable as well = not everything can be thought out and set up out and about

If Face and/or eye detect is on, you can’t lock the AF. You also cannot change metering patterns. This makes no sense at all

I was under the impression that these controls only affected the JPEG output as it changed the tonal control
( from my reading of the famous XPRO2 book ) please correct me if I have misunderstood something
Checked my JPEG and RAW record - RAW is not changed by these settings
I set my camera up at dawn on tripod and went through +4 +4, +2 +2, 00, -2 -2 to clarify the result
dramatic control
- decreases contrast whilst + increases contrast
I aim to use these controls a lot as I like SOOC and photo a lot of wildlife that is black and white & in theatre to increase contrast with people

The Auto-Stabilization is paramount and the real problem is the weight
It has taken a bit of practice to frame the birds or even find them with the EVF at 400mm or with the 2x converter
I like to walk and the great problem is what do you do when you need that great landscape
Its an exercise when you are wrapped up against the cold and my poor solution is the second camera
I agree that the bridge cameras are now in a fight for there lives against the phones and only the capability for long zoom is the standout feature - plenty small quality camera offers in the 1x to 4x
Now the race for the mega-pixels is over and busted it is a straight long end printable picture race.
If you can get near enough to fill the frame and have the light the Fuji XS1 printed a zebra to 20in x 15in for me with fine golden grass stems proving the clarity.
That wonderful 100 - 400 would be threatened if the bridge cameras made a significant improvement in ISO & Autofocus
My reading of the situation is that for those that never print or just show and share pictures, the market for quality cameras is lost as quality is quite adequate from other offerings.
The market is in the hard things!

Im my mulling
Fuji is very quiet in the top end bridge camera market
Lugging my XPRO2 & 100 - 400 around is weighty but valuable for the focusing and lower light opportunity
The danger I see to the X Series non profession user is a further upgrade in the bridge camera
The XS1 and HS 50 are good but not quite there and neither are the others i have checked in the shop
Because of the compromises involved it would have to be one wonderful camera to get the pros onboard but not out of the question, certainly I would be a gimmee
I love the OVF on my XPRO2 and with the shorter mm always use it but with the long zoom I always use the electronic viewfinder
However practically each business unit of a company produces its own profit and loss sheet, historically Fuji is birthed in film & photo paper and afterwards turned to lens and cameras. These are core divisions and whilst they may not make wads it would be difficult for the board to contemplate ditching these entities as they are what Fuji is. That's not to say they might wax and wane.
Going back to thread medium format at the price is not the threat! Tis Tother End
My cameras have never been retired for non performance, the new models were much more capable!
