  1. I primarily shoot with primes: 56mm on the xt1 and either the 35mm or the 18-55mm 2.8-4. I use the zoom lens for group shots and also as an 18mm 2.8 with stabilization at receptions. So, in essence, I use it as a poor man's prime (with excellent results). My other body is an X-E2.
  2. Thanks, everyone! That's a wealth of very great information!
  3. Decent sharpness is considered. I also have another 135 f2 Pentax but the image quality is useless at anything but like f8.
  4. Any recommendations for a manual-focus wide-angle prime? Or even a Macro? I have an old Sears Pentax 50mm 1.7 with decent quality. Wasn't sure if there are any other focal lengths out there of reasonable cost.
  5. I shoot weddings and I am crossing my fingers on this. However, the area where I find both the XT1 and the XE2 failing me right now is with processional and recessional shots. However, this forum has really done a great job recently on enlightening me with the fact that Fuji continuous focus has specific requirements to work properly. In any event, I would say that AF in low light hasn't been extremely horrible yet. I'm also reminded that my Canon also struggled at times in those situations.
  6. Eventually I delete all of the raw files maybe after I've safely backed up the processed jpegs. Seriously, who has the kind of time to edit Raw files years from now? I've got 30 thousand RAW files eating up space on my hard drive from my Nikon and Canon days. Guess when I'm going back to re-process those babies? NEVER.
  7. Forgot to mention: I ONLY bring in the raw files into LR if I can't get what I want out of the jpg.
  8. Hi Guys, I have faced the same dilemma and have come to this resolution for now: 1. Shoot RAW+jpeg 2. Copy all files to desktop 3. Import ONLY jpegs 4. Slight JPEG processing (if needed. They are already so good!) 5. If I run into issues on any image, just go find that particular RAW file and work on that. It works well for me now. Saves a lot of time, and I still can save the RAW files as an insurance.
  9. I used to feel that way too, and agree with the feeling of too many files. But what I do is copy the files onto my desktop and just import the JPEG files into LR. If I find any files where I think that the RAW is needed, I just then import the RAW version in and work on that. Most of the time, I don't feel the need to bother with the RAW files, but it's great to have the insurance, just in case.
  10. I've often read the criticism (not to which, I agree) that if Fuji would just make their cameras with all of these features in them in the first place instead of "half-baked", then we wouldn't need all of these multiple firmware updates. I can see that side of the argument, but I'm very pleased as to what Fuji ALREADY puts out originally. To me the FW updates are simply a surprise bonus. What say you guys?
  11. Well put. In a nutshell, I guess I prefer what the camera is already giving me. It saves me a ton of time in front of the computer and thus more time taking pictures with my Fuji camera, which is the most fun part. ;-)
  12. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm surprised as to how much fringing there is. So the DR settings can fix the fringing? I think I'll be getting your book real soon. Will it be updated with anything for firmware 4.0, or does it not matter?
  13. And maybe THIS is what the draw for me is. I love the mechanical knobs and the styling, the metal construction, and the ability to manual focus with ease. The file quality is a bonus, as I never had an issue my the full-frame Canon files that I came from. Deva, I think you've helped me answer the question!
  14. Anyone who has used the 4.0 update notice any sort of improvement on the general single AF? That's the AF that I use most. I'm curious about the others, but does the update improve the general speed of the AF for typical shot-to-shot use?
  15. I keep reading a lot of forum posters who are talking about the 56mm focus speed being sub-par, at least before the update. Is this lens as bad as that? I'm asking because I OWN it and have used it for several months. I don't notice it being a poor focusing lens, but then, of course, I also own the 35mm. Thoughts from the community on the 56mm and it's focus speed?
  16. @flysurfer. In regards to Scenario 1, I'm not seeing the severe CA you are mentioning. Yes, definitely some clipping, but in my experience with Fuji or anything digital, pulling back highlights in these severe situations looks kind of weird in LR. I let those highlights go since there really wasn't much detail that was important anyways. I'll take the advice on the DR settings though. Any tips on what works best?
  17. Thanks for the encouragement. I am interested in film, but only for the curiosity of what others have been saying about it. It's hard to justify paying for something I'm able to do for free right now (except for the printing, of course). Additionally, I understand that its becoming increasingly more difficult to develop your own film (due to finding the chemicals, etc) and sending it away just reminds me of old point and shoot days of film, which I DO remember. I have always learned that a controversial hook is a great way to gather interest in your topic. Perhaps my "hook" was a little too controversial. I am not bashing film. I just can't relate to the other Fuji photographers who come from film. I just didn't know if there were others out there like me.
  18. To your credit, you are correct. I did not put a great title at all on this post. It should have said this: "Anybody out there who loves Fuji but does not have a film background?" That's all I wanted to know. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. It's ironic that you say that the end result is all that matters and then you champion the "process". If I make a print using film or digital, does it matter the road I took to get there? Yes, some enjoy all that comes with using film, but just because others are not interested doesn't mrs they are missing anything. That's just your opinion, which doesn't matter to me either. Secondly, I joined this forum to chat with like-minded Fuji-X users who all share a passion for Fuji gear. I'm just trying to see if there are any specific voices (and there are) who share my sentiments. Isn't that why most of us are on here? It gives us a level of satisfaction to belong to this group. I'm also not opposed to trying out film. I just don't think that it's necessary to be drawn to Fuji gear all because you used to use film. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. First off, I've been doing photography and using Canon and Nikon digital SLR cameras both for almost 10 years in manual mode. I teach classes in both general and advanced photography as a full-time teacher as well. I don't know where anyone got the idea that I don't like film because I don't want to bother to learn the technical aspects of photography. That's absurd. My point, as I seem to be repeating over and over again, and somehow it is getting lost, is that I am asking if there are other photographers out there who appreciate Fuji but have no history or affinity to film. Geez. No need to defend film or anything. I'm just seeing if there are more people who share my perspective. The other perspective (being drawn to Fuji because it reminds you of your old film days) doesn't matter to me, because I KNOW that you guys are out there. In fact most of the articles on any blog are written by former film users. Just go read my original post. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Wasabi here as well. Two batteries and a charger for 20 bucks. They have an even higher capacity than the standard Fuji batteries and have worked flawlessly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. The goal of my post was to express my opinion and to see if there were anyone else out there who agree with it. I'm encouraged by those who also share my perspective. For those of you who don't. Go troll somebody else's post. Your opinion isn't the one I'm after. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I have dynamic range and LMO left on. I seriously love the look of what comes out of my camera. This is all subjective, but that's what's so great about this: we can optimize our jpeg settings, or just shoot RAW. Everybody gets what they want!
  24. I think that if I had a shoot to do where focus was a critical element to improving the experience (like a wedding), I might be tempted to download the beta. That being said, I may not be, because if the FW turns my camera into a brick, then I'm even more disadvantaged. Even though many report that everything is fine, there's likely to be that one guy (and probably me, at that) who takes the risk and loses everything. I'll stick with waiting before "evaluating". Besides, what if Fuji drops new lens firmware? Then all of the "scientific reviews" are pointless anyways.
  25. I actually do adjust jpegs in camera. I'm trying to figure out the best settings with NR, but right now NR is set to 0, Htone is set to +1, STone is set to +1, Color is +2, and Sharpness is +2...I shoot in Standard(Provia) as well. I'm sure that there could be better settings than that, but it gives me exactly what I want. I don't even bother to sharpen them, since they look great already. People always argue about which program can get better sharpening out of Fuji x-trans files. My answer? Fuji X trans sensors, haha!
