I'm not sure why everyone is confusing the sync cover with the hotshoe cover. They're completely different things, and menphrad makes it completely clear what he is referring to:
 

I purchased a plan from my local store that would swap out for a new unit (if in stock) to cut down on turnaround time.  It includes 'Accidental damage' among many other provisions.
