Wide Eyecup EC-XH design flaw?

I've came across the rather annoying feature after I've purchased my beloved XH-1 and EC-XH wide eyecup. I love eyecup. It prevents light spill, feels comfortable to rest your camera, and I feel my overall shooting experience is enhanced by it. So when I saw this as an official Fuji accessory for $20 I've bought it.

Everything was going smooth and my intention was from now on for EC-XH wide cup to sit permanently on my XH-1 effectively replacing the original small eyecup.

Until... I wanted to place a flash in the hotshoe. I just couldn't make it for the flash - Nissin or EX-500 - to fit in, once the eyecup was installed. It blocks the hotshoe rails because it sits too high.

Is it me or there is no way to place a speedlight into the hotshoe and keep the EC-XH on at a same time?

Anyone have this experience?
