Hey guys, good morning from Chesapeake Va.  

 

So I think this year could be the year that I shift out of Nikon to Fuji.  I have had several friends recommend it, but I don't even know where to begin.  I am a reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally junior level photog and am seeking your sage council on where to begin.  

 

I have a Nikon D90 and find myself shooting a lot of lower light activity such as ballets, concerts, etc. 

 

I appreciate any/all help; from what I can tell you guys have a great community!

It seems everyone is busy before Christmas and you have been left waiting for an answer, so I will try to help. I have had good experience with the 90mm f2 at concerts, at ISO 3200-6400 I was able to use shutter speed 250-500 to freeze the movements of the performers and the focal length was good for me as I was taking pictures from my place - not walking close to the stage and getting in the way of professional photographers which I am not. Camerawise I have the X-T10 and I use zone focusing or manual focus which is very easy on Fuji, so I can do without the faster focusing speeds that are present on the X-T2, X-T20 or x-E3. So if your budget is tight, you can get an X-T10, they are very cheap now. Image quality is practically the same on all of these cameras (i.e. excellent). The newer ones have a 24Mpix sensor as opposed to the 16 MPix sensor on the older ones, but this is mostly irrelevant unless you want to print your pictures in really big sizes. What is best for you depends on many factors, there are tons of information on this blog and elsewhere. Lots of reviews on lenses and cameras. Have a good read and then ask some more questions.

 

If you look at the concert ph. thread, you can see for instance milaber22 using the 8mm fisheye for a totally different approach. Depends. Welcome to the forum and let us know how you are getting on.

      Looking for input; there are some decent deals and might want to take advantage to expand my lenses for my 100s already own: 110/2 32-64 35-70 100-200 + TC   Shooting mostly family shots, bringing my kit to capture family outings indoors and out. Tracking the 63/43 effective FLs on the two, but has anybody used both? Would the 55 (covered by two zooms right now) be redundant? Would the 80 be too similar in character to my 110 for portraiture?

      What's the deal Fuji X Forum? I'm noticing there are seldom replies to any topics - except for advertisements posted as replies. Really lame. Anyone else noticing the only reply they receive to a question is an advert?  🤠 fotomatt in Colorado

      This forum sure is shit. I posted a question that I doubt will ever get answered and I've seen another one about tethering from 2020 that still remains unanswered - I guess they're not common enough questions; and now I've also found yours. Did you end up using Cascable at all? I was going to post a question about Cascable but I honestly don't think there's any point. Since your post in 2021 it looks like Cascable have improved and I desperately want it to work with my iPad but can't seem to get it to do so and their customer support is as useless as this forum.
