Fuji XF 80mm macro: OIS issue?

Hello!

Today I finally got my hands on the new XF 80mm macro. I went to probably all the photo shops of my town, until I found one. They were quite sad to see it go, since it was their first and last XF 80mm in stock... and they had it for only 2 days until my hold up! :D

I noticed something that I have never seen on other stabilised lens so far (Fuji and other brands). I don't know if it's an issue or just how the lens is designed -- but it's kind of annoying.

When the camera is turned off, or when the lens is not in use (e.g. when you're looking at your pictures), some lens elements can move freely inside. When you raise the lens, for instance from horizontal to vertical, these lens elements start falling within the lens, with a little "poc". Okay, they're not really skydiving, and it's probably just a few millimetres. But that's kind of annoying

I assume these are the lens elements that are used by the OIS, and that when it's not in use, the lens elements are not held in place by "the Force". But I'm quite surprised by this behaviour.

Does anyone has the same "issue" with this lens?

I can only assume it's normal, as the Fuji guy who sold me the lens confirmed it, and there is no way this lens could have passed the quality assessment tests without anyone noticing this... But just in case...

Thanks!

Konzy

Edit: I made a short video to show the moving elements:

Same with the 90 mm, linear motor focus drives.

I have the 90mm and I am looking forward to getting the 80mm once I can justify the cost! From my experience of the 90mm, the best way of stopping this noise from being annoying it to store the lens upright when it's not on the camera. Gravity stops the magnets (?) from moving around when the linear motors are not under power.

Blue Jays are tricky to get good photos like you have, they tend to fly away as soon as the lens cap comes off 😀.
    • I own the Fuji X-T1 and X-H1. I own several Fuji lenses but I tend to use 3rd party vintage manual glass which I find quite enjoyable to use. I'm testing a photo here taken from my Flickr account that showcases the Tokina 100-300mm Zoom lens with 1.4 extender. • Forgot to mention another thing. Mine does not work if I plug the USB cord into a USB hub. It only works if I plug the cord into one of the USB ports on my computer itself (an iMac). This surprises me because I think there's a hub built into the computer itself, which is how the computer has multiple USB ports in the first place. I think it was somebody here that suggested I try that -- sorry I don't remember who!
    • On another forum someone suggested spraying some electrical contact cleaner into the wheel but the Fuji tech said that could risk frying the rest of the cameras electrical so I haven't tried that.
    • I have an x100VI with 1.01 firmware - did a reset already and didnt solve issue I am about to describe. Can you all see if your camera does this: Switch to C mode, step down to f16 and then press shutter half way. Does your screen go dark? I have tried playing will all settings (have had the following so quite familiar with the menus: x100, x100f, XT-2, X-Pro 2, XT-3) , only happens in C mode. If you find this can you report to Fuji @ digitalinfo@fujifilm.com. They told me they had not seen this before and that it was normal behavior because the shutter is closing, but the shutter closes in S mode as well.
