Recommendation for Super Macro Reproduction Lens

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I would like to digitize old Super8 Films by automated photographing of single film frames. Which lens would you recommend to capture a 12x8mm area, e.g. a magnigifaction of about two.

Super8 film can reach very high densities. Hence, it is important to have a lens with low flare to be able to capture details in the dark areas.

Thank you in advance for sharing your ideas,

Jan

For this specific task I'd think about the Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5x Macro. But you should know that it has an electronic aperture control only, despite being full manual for everything else. So you would need a Canon body to close the aperture once to the desired value.

I'll try to think about something else...

Thank you very much for your feedback. Theoretically the Mitakon in 4x mode should exactly cover the 6 mm width of a Super8 frame.

I will try the Mitakon with my X-T2 and compare it to a traditional 1:1 reproduction setup, e.g. mounting an 'Apo Rodagon D 75 f4' on a 'Canon 5D MkII' that I can both borrow.

Best,

Jan
