Godox TT350F Review (for Fujifilm)

Recommended Posts

To answer y the godox is so much darker than yongnuo, the reviewer could be using Auto FP with the godox

This will make the godox somehow stuck with hss mode for the entire range even though the sync speed is still not beyond 1/250...no auto switch it seems

I manually change to Front FP in the xt2 menu if i dont need ss above 1/250 and the flash will fire way brighter

  • 3 weeks later...

I just received my TT350F. (Firmware version U-1.1).

Here are my first impressions, testing it with my X-E2 (Firmware version 4.01):

Good news:
- TTL seems OK.
- Automatic zoom-head moves with the lens zoom seems OK.
- Manual mode seems OK.
- Manual zoom-head (16mm-69mm) seems OK.

Bad news:

- X-E2 is not mentioned at all on the godox TT350F compatibility list!

- Focus assist beam did not work with X-E2! ==> Disappointed!
- HSS did not work with X-E2!! ==> Very disappointed!!

==> Is there a workaround for using HSS with X-E2?? (Like for Nissin flashes, their HSS mode seem to work with X-E2.)
(It seems that even the Cactus V6 II does not support HSS with X-E2.)
Anyone knows if the hot-shoe contacts from th X-E2 are different from the X-T1? Or only a firmware issue?

Where do you got the info, that X-E2 supports HSS?

I actually just have purchased newly updated Air1 + i60A (the one everyone raves about radio HSS) and I cannot get HSS to work neither on- nor off-camara.

The official local distributor says, that according to Nissin this should work (but in order to help out can only provide X-T1 flash settings) - very disappointed at the moment.

I got these infos from the web:

http://www.fujirumors.com/fuji-nissin-i40-hss-force-trick-enable-sync-speeds-up-to-14000-on-your-x-series-camera/

http://disq.us/p/ucqc3z

https://www.wimarys.com/fuji-nissin-i40-hss-force-trick/

But I did not know about the newer posts:

It seems that after the Nissin firmware update, the "HSS force trick" dont work anymore:

https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4162515

So with the latest firmwares, there seems to be any more possibility for using HSS with X-E2!!

It seems that we need a X-E2 firmware update to enable HSS! Come-on FujiFilm!

(And no answer from FujiFilm Support yet...)

That's a very helpful summary, Bob.

I personally wasn't hoping on any HSS hacks, but for those updated units to support HSS natively out-of-the-box.

The misleading - if not even fraudulent - issue on Nissin's part is this:

They still list the Fujifilm X-E2 model as being compatible with i40/ i60 flashes on their homepage, while shipping/ marketing the updated flash/ trigger units as being Fujifilm HSS enabled.

While this 'might/ seems' to be true for the X-T/ X-Pro cameras, it certainly isn't for the X-E models.

http://www.nissindigital.com/2017/03/high-speed-synchronization-function-upgrade-for-fujifilm-type-nissin-flashes-and-commanders-in-mid-may.html

This story isn't doing Nissin/ Fujifilm any good and I hope they will both sort this out quickly.

I've been waiting for some serious Fujifilm flash support since they entered the mirrorless camera market - still hoping for a X-E2 Kaizen miracle, to be honest.

But just look around us ... the X-E3 hype is around the corner and I'm afraid for Fujifilm those 'quick wins' are more important than yet another X-E2 hardware update.

I for sure won't invest in any Fujifilm portrait glass for the time being and that Nissin gear is going back tomorrow.
