Fuji X-H2S rec only for 1s when using DJI RS3 Pro rec button

Recommended Posts

Hi,
I'm using a FujiFilm X-H2S on a Ronin RS 3 Pro and since I have it I've been noticing a strange behavior whenever I launch REC using the gimbal button: it first records for only one second then store the clip. A second push launch then the AEL mode of the camera (at least it says that on screen, AEL with a green dot) and a third or fourth will finally make it record for a non limited time.
A few pointers:

  • I am using internal CFast Type B storage
  • These cards work perfectly whenever I use the REC button from my camera (so no problem with them here)
  • This behavior appears very often but I sometime can record as expected
  • I've updated firmwares through the year to the latest for both the gimbal and my camera
  • I've changed cables

My nerd guess would be that the signal sent by the Ronin is following the wrong SDK and can be wrongly interpreted by the camera as multiple actions but hey, wild guess here.

One thing I'd love though is to resolve this as I'm often frustrated to have 1 second clips every time I shoot ("camera's rolling... wait a second")

Cheers

This is the same problem as I have with the X-H2 and RS3 Mini, so not limited to your specific setup. I have reported it to Fuji who say that it is a DJI problem. DJI say that the X-H2 isn't supported, but the X-H2S is. So I would get in touch with DJI - you never know, you may get this fixed for all of us :)

I've stopped using the record button because of this, and start recording from the camera.

I have a similar issue with my X-H2S (Firmware 7.0) and my RS2 (RS2 does not formerly support the X-H2S).  However, most of time when I select record on the RS2, the camera records for a short period of time and then stops.  A second press of record on the RS2 will result in the camera staying in record.

The behavior is odd because X-H2S firmware 1.1 there was no issue when pressing record on the RS2.  Somewhere around X-H2S release of firmware 3.0 this became an issue.

I do not believe this to be an issue with your gimbal.   This is a Fujifilm firmware issue!  Good luck getting this resolved by Fujifilm.  But I really doubt you will get very far.  Fujifilm firmware development is absolute train wreck.  Look at what is going on with autofocus.  In two years, they have gone from an autofocus that worked reasonably well, to an autofocus that many complained about, to one that works better but still is not as good as the original.

To the fairest,

Eris
