27mm Pancake a GOAT lens ?!

I'm starting to think the new WR 27mm 2.8 pancake lens is one of Fuji's greatest lenses ever. I don't know how the first version performed but, the second version has been performing amazing. It's so light and compact...I've even been taking it hiking. I never take a camera hiking lol. Just really loving the images I'm getting with it, and the X-T5 being paired has been good.

I know I'm late to the party but I own the original 27mm 2.8 and it pretty much never leaves my X-T1.  It is an incredible lens, on a (still today) incredible camera!!

I love mine.

Random question for you, or for anybody reading this... If you could only buy one, a used X-T1 or a used X-H1, which would it be ?! I need the camera that has some soul in it.. Has something special on the sensor or in the image.. Never had either of those cams, heard good things about both though. Looking to get it for a family member getting into photography..

The X-Pro line are the revered ones, so an X-Pro 1 would be the obvious choice missing from your list, it's slow though.

The X-H1 is an excellent tool, great ergonomics and versatility.

 

Back to the original topic:

I have the original 27mm f2.8 pancake, for me it is far from special. The second version is identical optically. I like its compact size, but the 40mm equiv. focal length is not one I like much, and the imaging results are just average.

Those two are “aimed” 😀 at different directions. The X-H1 is newer, larger, heavier, has IBIS and is more of a ‘video oriented camera that also takes stills’. The X-T1 is the older, lighter, smaller camera (no IBIS) oriented more towards stills with the ability to grab videos if need be.

Let the intended person hold and try each camera. The best one is the one they want to take with them out to get the images, even after the short term buyers remorse about maybe the other one was better. That is where the soul comes from.

I have both the XT1 and XH1.  I love the XH1, but if I had to choose, I'd take a XT1

I use the TTArtisans 27mm AF equivalent and fund it to be quite good and at less than half the money of the Fuji very good value. Sure it has no WR and AF is a bit slow and sometimes hit and miss but overall it's ok. 

I also have the Manual Focus 25mm version which in some ways I prefer - certainly at 37mm equivalent the FOV is better. It's not as sharp across the frame (particularly the corners) but central sharpness is very good.
