Hi,

In manual mode I set the MF Assist to “Focus Peak”

When I turn off the camera and turn it on again the MF Assist has returned to “Split Screen”

Is there a way to stop this happening??

It is very annoying.

Thank you

Bernard

I do not have a X-T5, but I am wondering if maybe you have activated the Dual Display setup: https://jmpeltier.com/fujifilm-manual-focus-assist-modes/

scroll down to the Dual Display section. It does use a split screen approach and will let you also use focus peak mode and then go back to split screen after a restart, at least that is what the article implies anyway.

Yes, but when I switch the camera off and then back on again, the last setting is preserved (Dual Display or not, also MF Focus Assist mode e.g. Focus Peak Highlight). I think what Bernard means is that after he switches his camera off and back on again, having set MF Focus Assist to Focus Peak Highlight, his camera reverts MF Focus Assist to Digital Split Image. If that is what Bernard meant, I can’t figure out how that could happen. Even if he meant Dual Display, that also stays in the last state after switching my camera on again.

Are any other settings reverted back to a default state as well on restarts?

Also, are any other MF Assist options reset back to the split image state when the camera is restarted?

If these happen, it could be a hardware problem, as in if the first answer is ‘yes’, the chip storing the settings or the “back-up” battery is bad. If the second answer is ‘yes’, the cell in the chip holding that setting’s storage area may be bad.

Based on what you and @Greybeard are saying, it does not sound like a general firmware / software issue, it could still be a firmware issue just for this camera — the firmware update just did not install all the way.

I don't know why this was happening but for information purposes I have solved the problem.

By opening each of the 7 + custom settings and using the Q button I was able to save the MF Assist setting to "Peak" for each one. The setting now remains permanent.

Thanks to everybody who tried to assist.

Bernard
