New Member with a problem

Hi I'm an amateur enthusiast and have been using an X-E2 with 18-55mm R LM OIS lens for just over 2 years now and love it, I'm new to the forum and unfortunately begin with a problem. 

I'm always wary of software/firmware upgrades and have been happily using the camera on vers, 1.0 for the last 2 years. A couple of weeks ago I took the plunge & updated the firmware to 4.01 (also updated lens firmware to 3.21). As I was upgrading from 1.0 I also took the advice to do a shooting menu reset and set-up reset straight after the upgrade as recommended. Everything seemed OK until today when I connected the camera to my laptop using USB cable to download some images. The camera froze - LCD display, on/off switch everything! The only way to get the camera working again is to disconnect from USB cable, switch off and  remove/reinsert the battery. I've tried doing the resets again but the problem remains -  Can anyone please help?

Sorry can't help directly. However, some advice - never use the cable, simply take out the SD card and use that with a card reader - external for a few pounds, or an internal one if your computer has one.

Can’t help your specific problem. I am vever ever used a cable to download pictures in all my years of use of a digital camera.

 

Indeed, as Mirror Mirror says, why do you use a usb cable ( which could be broken by the way and a shortcut the reason of your problem), just take out the card and put it in the card reader it is also a lot quicker.

Hello Steve. What system do you use? Linux? Windows? I have the same camera updated to the latest software version but, like the fellows above, I always take the card out and plug it directly in the computer without going through usb cable. Maybe there's a problem between the software on the computer and the camera.

Fuji and your computer maker are at the mercy of the chip-makers. I spend enough time in the server room to know that compatibility is never 100% when it comes to USB.

 

Make sure you are plugged in to USB 2.0 as the USB chips were slower and more stable than the various USB 3 chips.

 

With the file size of the X-E2 you can get away with a USB 2.0 card reader as well and they are inexpensive because they are simple and probably a carbon copy of the chip makers reference design. The new P2/T2 outputs 50MB RAW files so there you want a USB 3 card reader if you have a choice and anything to plug it into.

 

I always bring a basic (slow) USB card reader when I travel.
